Tammy Gilman - Web Design - Assignment 1

Critique of NCTC Website

The first page of the NCTC website has too many links to choose from. It takes the user too long to try to figure out what link to select. The red and blue colors complement each other well but the yellow mouse over is hard to read. Color blind people may have trouble reading the text with all the colors. The graphic in the middle of the page is nice although the 2002 in the globe is hard to read. Changing it out often is a good idea. It keeps the page fresh. The first page is graphic intensive increasing the download time.

The Admissions and Registration page scrolls too long making it difficult to find information. It looks like someone just threw up some text from a catalog. The bright blue box close to the bottom of the page containing a link for TASP is a horrible color. It is not very eye appealing. It takes too many links to get to the Online Registration site. There should be a direct link for this. It is very frustrating to have to go through 3 to 4 pages to get there. There should be a link back to the home page at the navigation bar at the top of the Admissions and Registration page. Having to hit the back button is a pain if that is not the page you really needed.

The staff directory has too many links to choose from. It would probably be easier if a user could have a choice between an alphabetical listing by last name or by department. The staff pictures are nice but cause the page to download slow. Is this really beneficial to the users?

Overall it is extremely hard to find any information on this website.

Links to Good and Poor Webpages/sites

Poor Website

totally classic movies
I do NOT like (1) the bright pink background on the first page, (2) that there are no clearly defined navigation links on the first page, and (3) the continued use of bad colors such as black, red and pink backgrounds with red text in the movie section.

Good Website

The Internet Movie Database
I like (1) the useful top and left navigation bars, (2) the soft colors, and (3) the amazing search feature.
