Benjamin McKenzie Schenkkan was born and raised in Texas. Following, his graduation from the University of Virginia where he was a Foreign Affairs and Economics major, he moved to New York to pursue his passion for acting. While in New York, he appeared off-Broadway in "Life is a Dream" at the Soho Rep.
Additionally, he performed in numerous productions at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, including "Street Scene" and "The Blue Bird," and at the University of Virginia, in "Measure for Measure" and "Zoo Story" before moving to Los Angeles where he landed a lead role in THE O.C.
Uncle is Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan
Education: Austin High, graduated 1997; University of Virginia, bachelor's degree 2001
His paternal grandparents both did some acting when they were young. His 22-year-old brother Nate is a Yale graduate working in avant-garde theater in New York. Younger brother Zack, 19, is attending Pomona College, a half-hour away from Los Angeles, and still pondering his future.
He followed his father and grandfather to the University of Virginia, where he graduated in 2001 with a degree in economics and foreign relations.
He changed his name for screen-credit purposes because there's an actor named Ben Schenkman registered with the Screen Actors Guild.
Son of Austin attorney Pete Schenkkan and poet-writer Frances Schenkkan
Moved to New York City three weeks before 9/11
While in New York he waited tables to help support himself and shared a bunk bed in a cramped apartment in the city.

Adam was born and raised in San Diego, California, Adam Brody spent a lot of his teen years hanging out with his friends, having fun and surfing. Upon graduation, he convinced his parents to allow him to attend college in Los Angeles. However, instead of enrolling in school, he hired an acting coach, signed with a personal manager and soon landed the lead in the NBC movie-of-the-week, Growing Up Brady, playing Barry Williams (Greg Brady). Soon after, Brody was cast as the lead in the MTV cult series Now What? His television credits also include a recurring role as Coop in ABC's Once and Again; a recurring role as Dave in the WB's Emmy-nominated Gilmore Girls; and standout guest starring roles in Judging Amy, Family Law and Smallville. Brody will also soon be seen starring in the new Fox television series "The O.C." (2003), playing the son of Peter Gallagher's character.
Plays the drums in a band called Big Japan (formerly called Steven's Team). Claims his drumming is more like practice instead of actual drumming.
Loves indie rock and jazz. His taste in music is the same as that of his character on "The O.C.", Seth Cohen.
Graduated from Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego, California.
Attended MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California.
Has fraternal twin brothers, Matt and Sean.
He was named one of Teen People's 25 Hottest Stars Under 25 (shared the honor with castmates Mischa Barton, Benjamin McKenzie, and Rachel Bilson )

PETER GALLAGHER

Gallagher, who grew up in Armonk, New York, developed an interest for acting as a teenager starring in school plays and musicals. After graduating from Tufts University, he made his professional stage debut in the 1977 revival of Hair, followed by a starring role in the Broadway production Grease. He is married and has two children. He lives in New York.
Going from stage to film began in 1980 with Gallagher's feature film debut in Taylor Hackford's The Idolmaker. Many film roles have followed including; Dreamchild, Bob Roberts, Watch It, The Hudsucker Proxy, the comedy hit While You Were Sleeping, To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, Cafe Society, Johnny Skidmarks, and The Man Who Knew Too Little. Gallagher was also seen in the Oscar-winning film American Beauty and Sony Picture's Center Stage, directed by Nicholas Hytner.
Having enjoyed extensive film work with directors/producers/writers Robert Altman and Steven Soderbergh, Gallagher was featured in Altman's highly acclaimed film, The Player, followed by Short Cuts and Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, features that were directed and produced respectively by Mr. Altman.
In November 2001, Gallagher starred in the Showtime mini-series, Feast of All Saints, based on the novel by Anne Rice. It is set in nineteenth-century New Orleans and depicts the story of the Free People of Colour.
Gracing the stage on a regular basis, Gallagher returned to Broadway on November 1, 2001 in Noises Off opposite Patti Lupone. He wowed audiences with his performance as the charismatic Sky Masterson in Jerry Zak's Tony nominated revival of the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls. In 1986 Gallagher earned a Tony Award nomination for his highly acclaimed performance opposite Jack Lemmon in Long Day's Journey Into Night. He received further acclaim with a Theatre World Award for the Harold Prince production of A Dolls Life and a Clarence Derwent Award for Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, directed by Mike Nichols. He also appeared at New York's City Center in the musical revival, Pal Joey with Patti LuPone.
He Attended Tufts University. He sang in a group called the Beelzebubs, which is a large barber-shop like group at Tufts.
On television, Gallagher most recently starred in the highly rated CBS/Hallmark Hall of Fame Special, Cupid & Cate. Gallagher's other credits include the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning miniseries The Murder of Mary Phagan, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial which was Gallagher's first experience working with Robert Altman, Brave New World and the series The Secret Lives of Men. For PBS, Gallagher starred in both Cliff Odets' production of The Big Knife and Peter Sellars' silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Ramirez.
Attended Tufts University. He sang in a group called the Beelzebubs, which is a "mini rock choir" (a capella group) at Tufts. [1973-1977]

TATE DONOVAN

Tate Donovan began making television appearances while still in his teens, most often cast as angst-ridden high schoolers in such made for TV films.
Tate was born to a large family in Tenafly, New Jersey, Donovan moved to Los Angeles to be closer to the television industry while he attended college at U.S.C., where he also met several of his long time friends such as actors Grant Heslov and George Clooney, with whom he still parties with to this day. Although not quite as active as his friend Clooney in the romantic arena, confirmed bachelor Donovan has been engaged to both film star Sandra Bullock and television icon 'Jennifer Anniston' , and has dated a large diverse group of women such as socialite Plum Sikes, stage actress Whitney Allen, and television soap actress 'Lauren Graham' , whom he met when they both appeared in the play "Once in a Lifetime" at the Williamstown Theater Festival in 2002. After graduating from college, Donovan gained prominent notice for his portrayal of the charismatic yet self-centered co-pilot in the ensemble period drama Memphis Belle (1990).
He is hoping to become a television director, and is learning how to do it by 'trailing' the directors on his fine night time soap, 'The O.C.'
In addition to fiddling, he can sing and play the bodhran (a hand-held Irish drum). He used to play a regular gig with a local band in Los Angeles.
Released a CD called "Wake Amusements" with his band 'The Decadents' ,
Attended Dwight-Englewood High School, the same school attended by Brooke Shields, Mira Sorvino and Leslie Gore.

ALAN DALE -Caleb Nichol

Alan Dale, once best known throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand for his role in the Australian television hit "Neighbours" (1985), is now a familiar face on US TV as Caleb in the hit FOX series "The OC" (2003). His film credits include After The Sunset (2004), Hollywood Homicide (2003), and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). His long list of television credits feature recurring roles on: "24" (2001), "Navy: NCIS" (2003), "West Wing, The" (1999), "ER" (1994), and "X Files, The" (1993). Alan has extensive theatre credits, has hosted his own radio shows and is a successful voice-over artist in both Australia and the U.S.

RYAN ATWOOD
in From Ryan's first moments in Newport Beach, he finds himself in conflict with a strict social and economic hierarchy that has existed for generations and doesn't allow any excursions for outsiders.
His very presense in Newport Beach threatens the security of its inhabitants and their way of life simply because this troubled teenager is unable and unwilling to conform.
Ryan was arrested with his brother for stealing a car. His mother then kicked him out of the house. He is currently in the custody of and living with his lawyer, Sandy Cohen, and the Cohen family.
Ryan sees the world of Newport Beach through the eyes of an outsider.
Ryan has an explosive on again off again relationship with Marissa Cooper. During one of their off again times, Ryan slept with Theresa, an old girl friend from Chino. She became pregnant claiming it was Ryan's. Ryan left New Port to take responsibility. Tersea eventually told Ryan she lost the baby. he moved back to New Port and begun he on again off again relationship with Marissa. We found out that Tersea did NOT lose the baby, Ryan has yet to find this out.
He and Seth have grown into having a brother like relationship.

SETH COHEN
Seth is socially awkward, a bit of a wise-ass and, despite his best efforts to appear otherwise, full of longing.
Seth has grown up in the "Newport Beach bubble" - good schools, a stocked fridge, his own sailboat and trips to Europe.
From the outside it looks like Seth has it all but, like his father, he senses there is something else out there... and he yearns for it.
Summer is the long-time object of Seth Cohen's unwavering (if unrequited) affection. Though his physical attraction is undeniable, Seth sees beneath Summer's brilliant surface charms to the sweetness and free-spiritedness at her core. Unfortunately for Seth, Summer's only vaguely aware of his existence. Undaunted, Seth faithfully pursues her, convinced that his honest affection for Summer will one day catch her off guard and win her affection, if only for a moment. Seth dreams of sailing to Tahiti with Summer.
Although Seth has lived next door to the Cooper's all his life, he has only recently begun to develop a friendship with Marissa.
Seth finally gets Summers. A problem arises. He meets Anna. A new girl to New Port that loves comic book almost as much as he does. Once again we see the on again off again scenario with Seth and Summer.

SANDFORD (sandy) COHEN
The character Sandy Cohen, was ranked #25 in TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time" [20 June 2004 issue].
A court-appointed public defender, grew up in the Bronx, his dad gone, his mom working all of the time. Sandy came out to California to attend Law School at Berkely. While there, he met an uptight undergrad, beautiful, if a little too refined.
Kirstin Nichols, a daughter of privilege, was a California shiksa goddess and found Sandy to be the most exciting man she ever met. Witty, wild and cool, Sandy brought fun and laughter into Kirsten's life.
They lived in a mail truck, travelling the country, living like true bohemians. When family circumstances drew Kirsten back into her wealty Newport Beach family, Sandy found himself living a life he never expected, in a mansion on a hill.
Sandy has took his young client, Ryan Atwood, into his home. Sandy sees Ryan as being like he was at that age.
Sandy recently learned that his wife loaned her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Cooper, $100,000.
Sandy has been trying to help Jimmy out with his legal problems.
He does not get along with his father-in-law, Caleb Nichols.
Sandy would like Kirsten to quit working for her father. The ups and downs of the Cohen marriage suck you in.

JIMMY COOPER
Jimmy was Kirsten Cohen's high school sweetheart.
As a financial advisor to the community he is loved and trusted- to the point where his neighbors think nothing of investing hundreds of thousands of dollars with him. Always with a warm smile, Jimmy is a master at hiding the reality that is his life.
Jimmy went from respected figure of the Newport Beach scene to a social pariah. He lost all his neighbours money as well as his own. Thus ticking wife Julie off. Consequently Julie filed for divorce. Jimmy left town and came back after Caleb's death. he was hoping Julie would get a good chuck of money, he needed to pay a fellow off before they hrut him. Caleb had no money left following his death, shocking all of his family. Jimmy was beaten and left town the day he was to re-marry Julie.

CALEB NICHOL
Caleb is a wealthy California real estate developer, but he comes from humble beginnings.
His daughter Kirsten works for him.
Is not fond of son-in-law Sandy. He has issue with Ryan moving in with his daughter. Caleb had an affair resulting in a child no onoe knew about. Her name is Lindsay Gardner. She was dating Ryan when the truth came out.
Caleb married Julie Cooper after her split with Jimmy. Upon the unwanted release of a special movie Julie made in her younger years he asked her for a divorce. Before this could go through, he died.
