Tough and dedicated, he's a loner whose been burnt in love and never wants to go through it again.
Peter Church, a.k.a. Mike fisher, is the one who has a reputation of being a tough guy, but is really quite soft underneath, this side of him comes out in particular when one of his colleagues are hurt or injured, for example, when Angie is attacked by Tony Howarth and winds up having her throat cut (Necessary Force) and where Oscar Stone was shot (Organised Crime) and (Something Old/Something New).
Peter Church is the rough and ruggard member of the unit who gets into the nitty-gritty situations. His father use to beat him up when he was younger (Forced Perspective - season 3), so Pete lived with a large amount of hate for his father, until he saw him in a hospital bed on life support after suffering a stroke (Heartline- season 3). He has a sister, Debra and a Nephew, Mathew who is a heroine addict, who are the only living relatives he has.
Church over the years has been known to have a rather unfortunate history with women over the years. Earlier in the procedings he was found have a working relationship with Ellen MacKenzie until Bernie Rocca found out his girlfriend - Alice, whom he was engaged to at the time, was killed in the line of duty. He had a good working relationship with Rocca and is protective of both Mac and Angie.
Peter later went onto date Collette Ryan, a nurse and a single mother to five-year-old daughter, Jesse, but the relationship ended the after Jesse's father turned up on the scene and Collette and Jesse wound up going back to live with him. He later went on to have a short lived fling with Danni (The Whisper Room - Season 4).
Things were generally going rather smoothly for Church, with Ellen `Mac' MacKenzie hinting of the posibility of the two of them being able to spend more time with each other after receiving news of a promotion to take on the Head of Homocide, until Danni dropped a bombshell announcing she was pregnant with Pete's Child.
Peter found himself forced to deal with the responsibility of becoming a father, which he instantly warmed to going so far as to set up house with Danni only to have his well laid plans fall apart after she wound up having the termination after discovering something had gone terribly wrong with the pregnancy. They have since broken thing off with after she announced that they should sell the house, that there was no future for them and what they were trying to work towards was no longer there and they should just leave it be. Fortunately for Peter a builders report turned up a problem with whiteants. They wound up being forced to stick with the house in the end.
