CYCLE TOURING STORIES
Every summer we spend about two months cycling in France. France is a touring cyclist's paradise. There is an extensive network of minor roads. French drivers are very courteous to cyclists. Almost every town and many villages have a good campsite. The scenery is wonderfully varied and every town and village has its own character and attractions. Finally, most important, the food is wonderful! We would love to help you plan a tour there.
When we planned to cycle from Cairo to Aswan in January 2000 we knew that it was difficult to visit places along the lower Nile. Although we thought we had obtained permission to set off from Cairo when we reached our first police check point we were stopped. But we eventually reached our goal with the tandem. This story describes how we did it.
We also biked in the Sinai Peninsula and from Aqaba in Jordan to Petra, and along the Dead Sea. Finally we crossed the Allenby Bridge into Israel and biked up to Jerusalem.

We flew into Denver International Airport and cycled north to where we could cross the Rockies with ease. We explored the western slopes eventually making our way back over the mountains to Eagle.
We have also cycled in California, Arizona, New Mexico and from Washington D.C. to Atlanta, Georgia. If you have any questions do ask us.
One of the joys of cycle touring is the unexpected encounters we have with interesting people. This story describes two such encounters in Bolivia.
On this trip we flew into Lima, Peru in February 1999. We biked down the Pacific Coast to Arequipa, took the train to Puno in Bolivia and then biked through Bolivia to Argentina as far as Cordoba.
It was a fascinating tour. If you want to know anything about the trip, ask us.
Irene wanted to show Burley the country where she had spent most of her life. She also wanted to cycle where she had only travelled by car. To our surprise it was the only time we had real problems. We were high jacked!
On the same trip we cycled the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth in South Africa. If you are interested in cycling here ask us about it.
Our cycle tour of Arizona took us through Navajo and Hopi Reservations. In this beautiful country we met with much kindness and a very warm welcome.
