Why is Drenn an exile?

Drenn takes and releases a deep breath before telling his story.

Before I was exiled from the Ascendency, I lived in a small farming comminuty, called Bahrn. There were but twenty families that lived in the area. After every harvest a few of the family patriarchs would travel to the cities to sell our crops. This was our life.

I had a friend, since childhood. Her family's farm was next to mine. We grew up being best friends, often sneeking out late at night to cause mischief among the farms.
Kery was her name, she was thin, with strawberry blonde hair and green eyes, and the sweetest smile that ever graced my vision. Everyone talks about how glamourous the sylvan folk are, but their beauty doesn't hold a candle to Kery's.
Time passed, and we grew up. Our friend ship became something more personal, and to spend a daw without her was my worst nightmare.
She was the first girl I'd ever kissed, and I was her first boy. By the time of my fourteenth birthday, every in Bahrn had our fate sealed. And being young, we believed them when they said we would be married one day
We got to be very close to each other, perhaps a little too close at one point. After that I could tell she was different, changed a little. She became distant sometimes, and it would take all my heart and soul to bring her out of it.

It wasn't long after, that she sent a note. She asked me to meet her at our special place late that night. We spent a great deal of time at a pond on the outskirts of the community. Tree's surrounded the water, and it was a nice and secluded place for us.
It sky was odd that night, for the moon shone brightly, along with the two closest stars. The rest of the sky was black, the thick clouds concealing the remaining starlight. I remember feeling that something from above was watching, as if the stars were eyes and the moon was a mouth ready to swoop down and swallow me whole.
When I arrived, she was already there, sitting on a log with her head in her hands, crying. Obviously concerned, I ran up to her and knelt down beside her. I put her head on my shoulder and held her.
Eventually, she calmed down. She pulled away from me and stood up, I stood opposite her and looked into her eyes, glistening from the tears the prefectly reflected the light of the moon and stars.

"There is something I need to tell you," she said with uncertainty as she took my hands in hers. She looked down at the ground for a moment before gazing back up at me, tears still flowed from her eyes. "I'm…"
And that was it, she pulled her hands out of him and backed away. The pain held in her eyes were replaced with fear. But she looked at me no longer, and I tried to turn to see what was there. I was never able to defend myself. Next thing I knew I was on the ground, helplessly watching.
It was a darshak pirate that assaulted us. Kery tryed to run, but he was too fast for her. I was unable to move, I couldn't even close my eyes. I was forced to watch… I saw everything he did to her.
When he left, half of her body was face down in the water. She was dead. I couldn't even move to pull her out. And just before I finally lost consciousness, I could see, out of the corner of my eyes two stars looking down at me, and the moon laughing silently.

I awoke much later. I was imprisoned. Much time had passed, and they were just waiting to take me to port, and eventually to the lands of exiles. I had been tried in the murder of Kery, and found guilty. How could my friends and family do this to me? I woke up from one horrible nightmare, and entered another.

Strangers came to collect me, they hauled me away in a cage. Those who were my friends once threw rotten vegetables at me. As the wagon took me away, I begged for them to hear the truth, but the could not hear me over thier own boistrous accusations.
As they shoved me onto the prison ship, one of my fellow prisoners told me how lucky I was. Two days after I'd been hauled out of town, Barhn had been raided by the darshak. He'd said that there were no survivors.
