"I...thank you. My mate will be so happy; I cannot begin to tell you..." The young canine bowed deeply, his brilliant blue markings rippling over his muscled back. The gold cross adorning his forehead marked him as a Virtue.
"Think nothing of it." A majestically maned and winged feline, the subject of the Virtue's gratitude, replied amenably. He adjusted his light perch upon the dusty ground outside of the local shrine, a small, humble building.
"If there is anything I can do to repay you -" Voiced the eager youth.
"No, that will not be necessary. The knowledge of your satisfaction alone is my payment." The feline said, smiling slightly.
"Well, if you ever need an extra hand..."
"I will remember it."
Araejius watched as the youth hurried off, lightened by the news that he would deliver his pregnant mate. They had been worried, due to mutations in the femme's bloodline, that the pups would not be...normal. Araejius had been able to assure them that there was no danger of this, after ascertaining that the condition was dominant. Neither of the parents displayed any of the necessary characteristics, so there was no danger to the pups.
He was glad that he had been able to help. The young Virtue was siring his first litter; there was bound to be plenty of anxiety on his part, as well as his mate's. It was Re's pleasure to give him the good news; he could never turn his back on someone in need.
The maned feline turned back to the next pleading Amunu in line. He gestured to the basket of fish and bread sitting in the dust next to him. "Please, help yourself. You look half-starved! Now, what is your request?"
The hapless peasant, an undernourished chiroptae, gestured with one dim, maroon-striped wing. He poured out his story to Re's understanding ears, as the long line of Amuni stretched out behind him, eagerly awaiting their turn. Discontented individuals from every surrounding town came to this very spot to seek the advice of the wise Araejius. He seemed to always be in this same spot, waiting for the next soul to help. His understanding, kind manner kept them coming from sunrise to sunset, but Re didn't mind.
It was all in a day's work, after all.
