Not only does he love it, he considers it his duty in life -- to protect the younglings of the pack from the same ordeal that claimed his innocence so long ago. He believes in freedom, almost excessively so -- he lets his charges find out for themselves just how hard life can be. The cubs of Seirei no Kami end up with plenty of bumps and scratches, but also with a cubhood that is rich and full of life, as well as the experience they need to make it through the rest of their lives. Raised in a sterile laboratory, unable to leave a single, well-childproofed room, Makelo was denied that same experience, and the wrongness of what was done to him burns in his memory still.
