January 2005 Jan. 24, 2005 Jan. 9, 2005 New Year's Eve 2004
Today is the New Year's Eve of 2004. It is a beautiful day with sunshine. Looking back, there are lots of things happened in my first 5 months. It is such a wonderful experience. I have gained around 12 pounds and grew around 8 inches. From the little baby who doesn't know anything, I have grown into a happy boy who feels excited about everything in the world. There have been laughters, tears, and stresses, but they are all good memories.
I am so happy that this year ends with a warm day. And so is my heart. I feel so thankful to the world. Here are my special thanks:
Mommy, my first "thank you" is for you. Daddy told me you liked sleeping a lot before having me. However, you didn't have a whole night sleep after I was born. Every night, you get up, change me, feed me, and put me back to sleep. Thanks for enduring me going to bed very late at nights. Thanks for jumping out of bed after hearing me cry at nights. Thanks for feeding me while you can hardly open your eyes at night...I am gaining weight everyday, but you are losing weight every day.
I want to thank my two grandmas for taking care of me at daytime when daddy and mommy are at work. You also helped mommy when I was not being very good at nights. Numerous times, you picked me up when I cried, and then comforted me, pacified me, and rocked me. If you can see my smile when I sleep, that is for you, grandma!
Thanks for all the people who have visited me, sent me gifts, and gave me best wishes. I feel so happy to know you!
Last but not the least, I want to thank all my diary readers to leave your messages in my guestbook. You are the reason why I haven't stopped writing. Here are some black and white pictures from Christmas time. Warm wishes from our family to you all.
We had some snow again. The temperature is not cold though. The ice from a week ago hasn't melt yet, so daddy and mommy think we'd better stay home and go out less often. That is fine. I've got lots of toys.
I started reading books now. (Yeah, if you know what I am saying. :)) I can flip the books and "read" them. Mommy feels so happy seeing me reading.
Did I tell you I had my first tooth on New Year's Eve? I was teething a lot before that. Daddy tried a lot of teethers, and they were helpful. However, the best teether is Daddy's little finger. Daddy enjoys doing that too, because he can feel how hard my tooth roots are. And he is the one who found out my first tooth-the bottom right one.
I become more fussy at night now. Sometimes I cry really loud and don't want to sleep on my crib. I am giving mommy a hard time now. I don't know why. Daddy and Mommy think that's because I am teething or I had a bad dream. I hope this period will pass as soon as possible.
I had my 6-month check-up at Mayo Clinic, where Mommy works! I'm happy Mommy switched our health plan to Mayo so that I can visit her work place at the same time. It was also my first time to meet my new pediatrian, Dr. Cook. He is a GUY! But he is nice! I like him because he saved 2 shots for my 9-month check-up. I was not 6-month old yet when he saw me. As always, Daddy and Mommy are the proud parents because I'm 20 lbs and 28 inches long (both in the 91 percentile - Yay!!)
Daddy bought me an exersoucer. It is so cool that I am surrounded by toys whiling sitting or standing in it. When I press the button on the toy house, I will hear my favorite song Daddy sang and recorded in there! See how excited I am!
Today is my first Chinese New Year! I got red pockets from my parents and grandparents. Mommy put them underneath my pillow for good luck in the coming new year as mommy'mommy did for her when she was little. And I'm dressed in a new outfit. These are all Chinese tradition! I am just lucky to celebrate both Chinese and American holidays!
Today is also granny's birthday! I'm happy we're celebrating her birthday together. We prepared a gift for her and a cute card in my name. (I tell mommy and daddy what to write inside : ) The other great thing for the new year is that grandpa is with us now! He brought so many stuffs including some Chinese readings and winter outfits for me. All of us are excited! For some reason I like him at the first minute I met him. And of course he loves me : ) I also noticed Grandma is so happy. Daddy said she can chat with grandpa now, not just baby talk with me when they are at work.
We are having a huge snow today. Both grandma and grandpa are excited and take a couple of pictures in the snow. The snowflake is big and pretty. Daddy says we should have a snowman for me. He made a small snowball and roll it over and over on our deck and got a big ball. Mommy handed a carrot to daddy and it became the snowman's nose! I am very excited. This is my first time to see a snowman. Next year I will help daddy to make it better looking : )
It is such a nice and sunny day today. The temprature is 50+. We couldn't stay inside anymore so we walked in the neighborhood for about 40 minutes and all of us got really warm. I even got tanned. Granny says I am very easy to get tanned just like daddy. Well, I guess that's fine. I am a boy!
I visited Emma again. She is cuter and cuter. She can crawl now. Each time I see her, I get more on my todo list. I sit on the floor to play her toys. After I came back from Emma's house, daddy and mommy found that I could sit on the floor very well without support.I liked her "little people". Daddy says that means it's time for shopping. :)
Now that I can sit, I find myself in a bigger and more exciting world. I like sitting on the carpet and play with my school bus, my little train and my little farm. I still like the exersourcer, but I don't play with my mobile as much. I can't just stare at it like an infant. I like the feeling of touching, and mouthing too. I enjoy grabbing those little toys and putting them in my mouth. Well, daddy and mommy don't like the later part.
Mommy thinks I look thinner now. I am probably taller (they keep saying I'm longer, which I don't like. Hey, I'm a man! ) She thinks that's because I exercised a lot recently, but she is still kind of worried. Daddy thinks it is not a big deal as long as I am eating well. The car seat is way too small for me now. Daddy says he will find a convertible car seat for me. That means, I am going to say bye-bye to my lovely car seat and my infanthood (if there's such a word, but you know what I mean). I will miss it! We cannot wait for the next appointment to see how I am doing.
Today is Easter! Jeez, holidays are one after another! I guess I'll just try to have as much fun as possible. Daddy and mommy took out the new outfit they bought for me a while ago. Apparently they loved it. They took a lot of pictures of me. They also put my little basket by my side saying that's for Easter. Mommy says we'll go egg hunting next year when I can walk. Now I can barely crawl : ( I made backwards a little bit when Mommy put me on my tummy. And I heard she was excited and telling Granny, 'Look, I think he can crawl!' I don't really care, but they seem to count it as my first crawling. That's fine with me : )
We also had a friend come from Florida. She brought me new outfit for summer, because she's from a warm place. She invited us to visit Orlando and DisneyLand. They got excited about that idea. I don't know much about Orlando, but mommy told me my Mikey and Pooh are all from DisneyLand. Sounds like a cool place, I guess.
It has been such a warm and nice week. The temprature even hit 70. I am only wearing a Tee today. Daddy and Mommy took me out to the lawn a few times every day, and I really enjoyed that. I didn't want to go back home even when I was tired. :)
I think I start liking our neighbor's puppies now. There are several dogs in my neighborhood. One is called Duncan. He is Emma's puppy. I even touched him once. Another one is a black dog, and her name is Lady. The third one is called Fred. There are other dogs too, but I don't know their names. I will tell ya later. I have my first trick now. Everytime Mommy says "A dog says?", I will shape my mouth the way people usually makes "Woof Woof". Mommy likes playing that a lot, and finally I lost interest to it. :)
Daddy grilled some chicken and pork ribs today. They seemed enjoying those foods. Mommy even put one piece into my mouth, and I liked it. I like all kinds of foods now. I like bananas a lot. Everytime I see babana, I just want to grab it and eat it. Daddy feeded me some oranges today, and I liked it too. I guess I just want to eat table foods.
Apr 18, 2005Guess how much I weigh? 22lb and 15oz. This put me in the 75th percentile. My height is 29 inches, which is in the 79th percentile. We found these from my 9-month check-up. Mommy was not very excited. But Dr. Cook says that is perfectly fine considering I'm an Asian. He expected me to be in the 25% to 50% percentile. Well, I do wanna keep the percentiles high because I wanna be big and strong and I wanna make Mommy happy. So Mommy bought me Yo Baby and cottage cheese. And I try to eat these new foods although the first bite tastes weird. But I start to like them soon. Mommy said I'm not a picky baby, not like her : )
We went to McDonnald's! I had part of a double cheeseburger. For my first time, I found beef is so tasty. I had fun sitting in the high chair and looking around too. I laughed and laughed. An old grandpa sitting at the next table laughed when hearing me laughing. He asked, 'What kind of laughing is that?' He was hoping me to laugh more while I was wondering why he kept looking at me.
I've done enough talking about eating last time. I'm not going to talk about foods until I try something new next time : ) Today is Mommy's first Mother's Day! We spent the whole day together! We went to the swing set in our backyard and played for a long time. I enjoy the breeze and watch our neighbour's puppies. I look at birds when I hear them chirping. I hope everyday is like today because Mommy is home with me! Every morning I want her to hold me for a little bit before she goes to work. Then I'll wave her bye-bye at the window (like I have a choice...). Normally when I'm done with my second nap of the day, it's close to the time when Mommy is home. I can recognize her right after she turns around the street corner. I'm so excited to see her home that I wish I can walk soon so that I can run to her. Daddy prepared a gift for Mommy. I know I'll have a gift for her from me. I don't know how it's going to be but I do know it's going to be special : )
We went online at night and talked with mommy's mommy and her whole family including my cousins and mommy's aunt. We also had the webcam on so that we can see eath other. Actually, they all wanted to see me. Well, I was playing with the keyboard and the mouse the whole time. But I did give them several smiles. Everybody was so happy to see me!
We went to the cities yesterday and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. Well, I was eating cereal mixed with baby food, that's all I can have, lucky me! We also went grocery shopping because the Asian grocery stores have more selections there. I didn't sleep much on the way back and forth. I got really tired. I guess car ride does not work for me! Actually Daddy and Mommy just picked a convertible car seat for me from Toy's R Us because I have outgrown my infant car seat. The new car seat might be the other reason! Anyhoo, I slept for 13 hours with 1 feeding at my normal time (around 4am).
Today I don't feel very good because I had very loose stool 3 times in the morning. I don't feel like eating either. For the first time I think I'm sick. Mommy called a nurse and she said I probably got diarrhea from some virus and my body is trying to get the virus out. And it might take 5-7 days. This time I'll thin out : (
I have had a great Memorial Day weekend with Daddy and Mommy home with me! Their friend Kaz came to visit from Japan on Friday. Daddy went to meet him first and they sent Daddy home to bring me and Mommy because he hasn't seen me! We met at Sophia and Jeff's house and Kaz took many pictures of me. Sophia said I was one of the few babies who liked her. She is too nice saying that because I touched her face after I took my fingers out of my mouth. They have a pretty fish tank with lights! I have seen fishes in Wal-mart and I never forgot them after seeing them the first time. And I've learned to shape my mouth like a fish!
Saturday Daddy and Mommy went to Kelli's house for BBQ. They didn't bring me because they started around my nap time and they knew I would be fussy. Kelli is one of Mommy's coworkers. She's got 2 boys, one is Dedric, the big brother, one is baby Logan. We visited them before. I never thought there are babies younger than me. I cannot believe I was that little too. I want to be as independent as Dedric. They have a fish too! The second day Daddy brought me to Wal-mart and he picked a female betta and a fish tank with light. Now I have my own fish! Daddy named her Echo. I think that's a cute name for a fish.
Today is Daddy's 1st Father's Day. Sometimes Daddy thinks I'm mommy's boy and grandma is my 2nd favorite while he is the 3rd. I know he is not worried. But I love my daddy! He always makes me smile. He sometimes puts me on his shoulders. I always get excited about that. I love come to his office and play with his laptop. Mommy said I can be a software engineer too when I grow up and daddy can help me with that. But daddy said whatever I do in the future, as long as I'm happy, he is happy. He is sweet! Mommy got daddy and me a matching Ralph Rauren T-shirt. We look more like each other that way! Daddy loves to hear people say I look like him : )
Finally, Grandpa is with us now. Daddy says I will be spoiled even more. I am getting more and more active now. Besides crawling everywhere, I like to walk in the house with their help. I walk so fast that grandpa gets exhausted so easily after a couple of minutes. They all say I look funny when walking: walking quickly on my little fat feet, with my belly on front. I even cheer for myslef by making "Oh Oh" sound.
Daddy had a long 4th of July weekend. We went to Logan & Mogan's house for a party. Our friends said I've got a big voice now. Actually since grandpa got here, I learned more things and talked more (although it probably sounds like a foreign language to you!). Mommy said even my personality changed. I'm not as shy as before. I try to greet everyone who walk by us when I go grocery shopping with mommy and daddy. People had to stop and say 'hi' : )
Summer is definitely my favorite season. I only need to wear a playsuit or a tee. I can swing in the backyard for a long long time. I even went fishing with daddy a few days ago. I ate a banana by the river while looking at the boats! It was a great exprience. But mommy and I went home early for a nap. Mommy is strict with my nap schedule. After my afternoon nap, I'll have my yo-baby or some apple or banana. I started to drink whole milk! And I'm on stage 2 formula, which means I'm not a baby baby any more! Hehe... I'm proud of myself : ) But there is one thing I don't want to advertise - I don't like sitting in my highchair! When mommy and daddy are at work, grandma will feed me while I'm standing in my exersourcer. But if they are home, I'll be forced to sit in my hairchair : (
We had two really hot weeks. The temprature has hit 90 degree every day. I kind of got bored. I couldn't go out to play on the swing set, I couldn't walk around the neighborhood, and I couldn't go fishing with grandpa. The only thing I can do is to stay at home and crawl everywhere.
My first birthday is coming soon. I am excited everytime I think of that. Daddy and mommy have been talking about it for a few days. I am still wondering what I will get for my first Birthday.
It is lucky to be a chinese baby because I have two birthdays. The other one is from the chinese lunar calendar. It was last Friday. Mommy and Daddy took me to the Target studtio. However, I was not in a good mood and was not willing to cooperate. Finally they gave up the photo session.
Today, we went to the studio again to re-take my photos. This time, it gets better. Although I didn't smile much, the photographer did catch a few good poses. Here are a few previews:
Today is a big day for me! Daddy and Mommmy are having a big 1st birthday party for me! I'm glad granny and grandpa are also here with us. I knew there would be something big going on as they decorated the house with ribbons, balloons & a banner a couple of days ago. Daddy taught me that was a 'Happy Birthday' banner. So when he asks me where is 'Happy Birthday', I'll turn to the banner. They also put out a yard sign which says '1st Birthday Party'. For sure these are all with Pooh! This is the biggest party we have ever had. I am not afraid of being the center of the attention of such a big group, which surprises Daddy and Mommy and myself! My friends Emma, Logan, Morgan, Jason, Michelle & Gavin all come to celebrate with me! Emma is even dressed up with a cute clip on her hair. Mommy also asked her friend Mike to bring his cool camera to take pictures. He is such a great photographer that a lot of pictures turn out very nice and professional too.
Of course we have a lot of food b/c daddy & mommy are cooking almost all day. The three of us together cut a big cake which is also customized with my name and a picture of Pooh & friends. Daddy blew the candle for me. Of course I messed around with the frosting and had some blue stain on my shirt. Then it comes to my fun part - opening the gifts. I've got so many toys, books & new outfit! Mommy also put a few things for me to pick out from: a wallet, a computer mouse, a pen, a book, a soccer ball, a CD selection from Chapin etc. Whatever I pick up, it's suppose to predict what I'm going to do when I grow up. That's a Chinese tradition for 1-year birthday. And... I pick the CD. Does that mean I'll be a musician?? I don't know. But that's a fun day. If I miss something, that's ok b/c mommy has everything on the tape : )
Today I'm turning 1! I cannot believe I'm 1 now. I can hold on furniture and make a few steps. That means I'll become a toddler soon! I'm crawling everywhere in the house, either to the patio door and play with the blinders or to the closet and open the drawers. I know daddy and mommmy don't like me doing that. I'll turn around and smile when I got caught by them : ) But they are baby-proofing the house now.
I'm so happy mommmy is off work for me today. It's a nice and cool day. In the morning, Mommy took me for a walk with a birthday balloon attached to my stroller. We picked a couple of ripe tomatoes from the garden. Mommy let me hold one of them. I like it b/c it looks like a ball to me. I also saw a few butterflies flying around in the garden. They are cute!
Mommy took me to the zoo by Oxbow Park in the afternoon! Daddy turned my car seat around and made it facing forward this morning. Now I can see mommy driving and we can see each other in the mirror! This is cool! The zoo is not far away. I was so excited to see the animals! There are big birds such as eagles, hawks, turkeys & owls. Turkey is not as cute as the one on my mobile. I said 'Owl' for my first time when mommy told me the big-eyes bird in the cage is called owl. I made fish sounds when we were looking at the river otter ; ) Mommy told me they are not fish. But they swim in the water! They look funny. I shouted at them and they didn't care. I was so excited to see a puma, a bear & 2 wolves. They look so big but I was not scared at all. I wanted to get close and pat them but mommy didn't let me. The bear was working on a bone. The badger looks so funny to me too. We also a twin baby cows. Mommy thought they were goats. She made mistakes too : ) Time passes fast there. Soon the park is closing. We have to go there again next time and we have to make daddy go with us!
On the way back I felt asleep. Mommy let me nap for 45 minutes in the car seat this time. And then we got to Toys R Us. She got me a safety 1st gate and another little people toy. And guess what else she got for me? A potty trainer! That's for 18 month+ but it seems they are training me soon! Mommy said babies in China are trained much earlier than in here. We'll see how it goes.
Mommy took me for my 1-year shots alone on Friday since Daddy had a meeting that afternoon. The nurse weighed me and measured my length. I'm 24.3 pounds (exactly the same as Daddy guessed! Mommy was close, she guessed 24.5 pounds : ). And I'm 31 inches tall! Wow, I have tripled my weight and have grown 10 inches within this first year! How amazing is that!
I had fun there until before the shots were done. The nurse first warned us of the burning pain from the shots (one for MMR, one for chicken pox). But I didn't know it hurt that bad! It was not an ouch, but an aweful sting and lasted really long! I was crying hard but the nurse said, 'His cry is so quiet! Have you heard of those screamers?' After she left, I was still crying b/c it still hurt. I had wanted to stop by Mommy's office but I was not in a good mood after the shots. Mommy figured that out and we went directly home. Today I have pink rash all over my body except my face. It started the second day after the shots were taken and today is the worst. But it doesn't seem to bother me too much. Mommy knew it was from the MMR shot and it was normal, but it gets so bad and I'm having a light fever too. She started to worry and called the nurse. She was told not to worry and to keep the life normal. We also missed their CCS picnic over the weekend because of this. Not fun...
Aug. 12, 2005Today Daddy and Mommy paid their first visit to a daycare center. This one is by the back door of IBM. It will be very convenient for daddy to drop me off and pick me up. They have got very good impressions on this center. Jason is currently going to this one and he likes the place too! But they've got a long waiting list! It's time to find a daycare for me as grandma and grandpa are going back to China on Oct. 30. It's going to be tough for both my parents and myself. Daddy and mommy have been trying so hard to make the transition as easy as possible for me. They have come up with several different plans. Grandma and grandpa came up with a plan too but it was rejected from the very beginning. Mommy's mommy was hoping that could happen too. They wanted to take me to China! It seems fun to me as I can play with my cousins and I can get spoiled and wild ; D Another plan I would like to mention to you seems a little crazy but very cute! Mommy brought this idea to Daddy and they were both excited. She got this idea because Emma's mom Brooke will be working only on the afternoons starting Sept. Mommy was thinking of working parttime too so that she and Brooke can help each other with the babies. It will be so cool if Emma and I can avoid daycare! When they mentioned it to Brooke, she was very excited too and actually she wondered if that could happen a long time ago! But remember I told you it was just a plan : ) When it comes to details, it does not seem to work well as Emma will have to go to her potential daycare until end of Oct. when we could start the plan. It will be hard for her to change back if she is doing well in her daycare. Also, mommy found she couldn't work parttime because her visa is for 40 hours a week. Just too many things to think about!
Well, I don't realize this first big change in my life. I still play as much as I can. I push my school bus around the house and climb the stairs at least 4 times a day. When I'm bored with my bus, I'll just push chairs or anything else that stands in my way! I also play my toy piano several times a day not only because I can hold on it and stand but also because it plays very nice music when I push the keys. I would like everyone to clap when I play the piano and I'll stand alone and clap for a couple of seconds too! Since I have so much fun playing everyday, I try to avoid naps even when I'm very tired. Quite a few times when mommy has got back from work, I haven't had my afternoon nap yet! Especially on weekends when daddy and mommy are home, I have managed to take only one nap, hehe... Once mommy even gave me a timeout. Of course I was upset and cried. I just wanted to play. : (
Reading is one of my favorite things to do. I point to many animals, fruits and other objects when Daddy, Mommy, Grandma or Grandpa say their names. I also enjoying flipping the pages and reading by myself. Last time mommy and I attended a UsBorne book fair hosted by Brooke and we picked 4 books. One is now my favarite bath book. It's about ducky and his friends and I read it each time when I'm having a bath. It has made bath time more fun, let alone I enjoy splashing the water : ) Mommy just bought another 3 books for me from Barnes & Noble. One is about a farm which has lots of flips where animals are hiding under. One has many magnets which I love to play. I have broken quite a few magnets on our refrigirator. One is about a bear floating with a balloon over mountains and rivers. I love balloon and I call everything round a ball. Grandpa like to play the basketball in front of our house. I love watching him playing basketball. And I can throw my husker basketball now! And I always want to hold a cherry tomato when we are in the garden. And most of the time I'll end up with going home with some tomato stains on my clothes.
I have other new likings now. I like the slides by our swing. I like to slide down and walk back up. Emma like it too and we take turns. Mommy always says 'One - Two - Three, Go!' and then I slide down. I like watch daddy or any neighbor mowing the lawn. I'll say 'Mow, Mow!' Sometimes grandpa help me push the mower around in the garage and pretend we're mowing. That was fun too! I also like crawling on the lawn while before I didn't like the feeling of grass at all! Well, there are still things I don't like. For example, I'm never into stuffed animals. I'm a boy! I like balls, cars etc.
Sept. 10, 2005It cools down quite a big these days. It feels like early fall. Mommy said to daddy on their way from the parking lot to Target, 'This is going to be the first Minnesota winter when poor Ashton has to come out of the house with heavy coats every day.' Daddy said, 'That's fine. He's a tough Minnesota boy!' They are talking about me going to daycare soon. Speaking of daycare, Daddy and mommy haven't got any luck in finding a daycare that they like and is also available. It seems that good daycare providers always have a long waiting list. They seem frustrated as it's getting close to when grandma and grandpa leave for China. But one good news is that mommy's friend's friend who is a stay-home mom has agreed to help us only half days for a short period of time. I might end up with going to her place first if they still can't find a daycare for me. That means mommy has to be with me for the other half days for a while! And we'll in a much better position by that time! I haven't realized how much I'm NOT going to like going to a stranger's house yet!
Gandma and grandpa say I'm a big meat eater. I thrill on baked chicken from the grocery stores and home-made meat balls as well as the double cheeseburg at McDonnel's. But many times I'm so busy I can't even make time to eat. That's because I'm so preoccupied with moving that sitting still for five minutes, even to munch on a favorite food, are more than I can manage on many days. Even if I eagerly ate everything from rice cereal to baby food from jars when I was a baby, I sometimes turn up my nose at every morsel mommy offers. Also mommy and daddy may think I'm deliberately disobeying them when I pull the tablecloth and placemat(and all the dishes on it) to the floor after they have firmly told me not to. I'm just exploring my surroundings and figuring out how much power I have over daddy and mommy, my environment, and myself : )
Sept. 18, 2005I had a rough weekend. On Sat. our whole family went to the cities for dim sum. I was very tired to start with the day as I woke up around 5:30 in the morning. Of course I couldn't take a solid nap either on the way. The worst things happened in the evening. I hit my forehead into the mental edge of a container that I wasn't suppose to play with. Both daddy and mommy were scared to see a minor dent in there and mommy almost cried! I cried for not too long and started to play again but daddy still called the nurse line. They asked many detailed questions and let them wake me up and check every 2 hours for the first 8 hours after the accident. It's a horrible idea to me. Esp. from 2am-3am after I was waken up, I cried (on and off) and didn't want anything or anybody except for mom. Poor mommy was so tired holding me and rocking me for over an hour. Daddy thought I was in pain from the accident and was going to give to Tylonal. But I finally fell asleep in mommy's arms.
Mommy thinks it's delicious when I preferred her to anyone else on the planet as a baby. Now that I'm bigger, though, and I dissolve into tears whenever she heads to work. I'm afraid she might disappear at any given moment without notice, so I'm not going to let her out of my sight. Mommy tried talk to me about her going to work and getting back by the end of day. But I don't understand why she has to go there everyday without me. One day we came out of the house together and she waved bye-bye to me when Daddy and I were heading a different direction for a walk. It wasn't fun either as I kept turning back and looking for her but couldn't see her. I said 'ma-ma, ma-ma' all the way during our walk.
Sept. 25, 2005I can finally walk! Right on today before I'll turn 14 months old tomorrow, I can officially walk! I found it very fun when I can stand up and see my toys sitting by my feet! And when I stand up, they all say I'm a big boy! I'm excited I can also reach things on our dinning table! I like practicing walking a lot. Mommy says I'm aggressive when walking as I walk so fast! Of course I know how to balance by stretching out my arms. I now like putting on my shoes (sometime mommy's shoes for fun : ) I also liked pushing my toy mower inside and outside of the house. That's how I started walking! Mommy let Emma use that now b/c she is also working on it and my little mower is more easy to turn around. I'm now pushing Emma's little mailman walker instead. That's fun too as I like getting mails from our mailbox anyway. You'll see a busy neiborhood when Emma and I are practicing walking together!
The past weekend was very beautiful! The temperature is above 70 and we wouldn't miss out fun in the sun. Daddy and mommy decided to take me out for some activities.
On Saturday, we went to the apple ridge orchard to pick some apples. I saw 7 or 8 really cute puppies. They were probably only 4 or 5 days old. I stood in front of their nest and stared at them for a very long time, yet I still didn't want to leave. Finally daddy got a cute yellow kitty for me to pat. That kitty was nice and warm!
The apple picking part was fun too! That was my first time to see so many apples in the trees and also a lot on the groud. I held one in each of my hands. Do you know that I love eating apples? The apple called honeycrisp tasted very sweet and fresh and crispy! Next time you go there, remember bring me some too : )
There were also a lot of big pumpkins too. Mommy took some pictures of me sitting besides those pumpkins. I had so much fun and when mommy asked if we should go home, I said 'No-no!'
The next day we went to Silver Lake. Mommy said there would be a lot of wild geese. She also said we visited there last year when I was only 4 months old. (like I could remember?) We drove there, and there are lots lots of geese and a few ducks too. They are very big. I just stood around those geese and move around. They all came to us thinking I would feed them some foods, but daddy told me the automatice food transaction machine stopped working. Oh, poor geese, you must be very hungry. Daddy promised me to buy some bread and bring me back next time to feed them. I am looking forward to it.
Yesterday is a sad day for me. Grandma and Grandpa left...
Grandma slept in my room last night. She woke up every hour to watch me. In the morning, she feeded me breakfast just like what she did any day in the last year. When the time to leave finally arrives, grandma couldn't help crying. She gave me a sweet kiss with tears and then left. I still couldn't believe she actually went back in China.
Daddy told me grandma cried for a while on the way to airport. Grandpa and daddy talked her out of crying. She felt very sad because she has no idea when she can see me, hug me, and kiss me again. She felt I am a part of her life. Grandma, daddy and mommy say we will visit you next year, so it will not be a long time.
On his way back from the airport, daddy got a call from grandma. Their plane was delayed in Minneapolis due to a non-scheduled maintenance. Oh grandma, I wish I was there so I can have more time with you. Finally, after 3-hour delay, the airplane finally departed. However, they couldn't catch the connection in Tokyo to Shanghai. Daddy actually got up 4:00 in the morning to call NWA for details. Daddy was told they were arranged into a hotel in Tokyo but no more details about the hotel. Daddy called uncle about this news and asked him to pick them up tomorrow instead of today. In the morning, he finally tracked down the hotel after several calls to Japan. He finally got to talk with Grandma. Actually, daddy worries too much, they have already called uncle and arranged everything. :)
I couldn't sleep very well tonight. I woke up periodically at night. Mommy knew how I felt and consoled me every time I woke up. I was still looking for grandma and grandpa in the morning. Daddy told this to grandma on the call, and she had a mixed feeling about this-she felt happy because I was looking for her; on the other hand, she wish I could forget her so I will not suffer.
Grandma and grandpa, thanks for taking care of me in the last year - nothing is warmer than your love. We had great time together. I will remember the time you take me out for a walk in the neiborhood; I will remember the time we go to the garden to pick the cherry tomatos; I will remember the time you put me on the swing and hear me laugh; I will remember the time we wait outside of the house for mommy and daddy off work; I will remember the time I run inside the house with you chasing me...I have made you very tired in the last year and now its time for you to take some rests. I will see you next year, and I will share a lot of new stories with you. I am looking forward to that day!
Nov. 10, 2005
I had my first travel last week, and we took airplane! Daddy and Mommy were worried about how I handle this first travel. It turns out great. They packed a big suitcase for me, and also brought my carseat and stroller. However, they only had a small one for themselves. I fell asleep right after the airline took off b/c mommy gave me milk to avoid the air pressure on my ears. And I slept for around 90 minutes! Then I walked around in the isle with mommy. I also love to look outside of the window. I saw the moon so close to me! When we were at the baggage claim area, some people on the same aircraft saw me and said, "That's the little boy who behaved really well on the plane!" Mommy responded proudly, "Yeah, he is a good boy!"
The weather in Seattle was not very nice, cloudy and cold but didn't rain much except the first day. The hotel room was a little small with a king-size bed. But I was excited to see the train and buses passing by from the window. When I got bored, I messed around the towel paper in the bathroom and tried to wear Daddy's big shoes. I got the chance to walk on the beaches and watch the boats and seagulls. Daddy caught a few good moments of mommy and me on the beach. It was great fun, and I didn't want to leave. Daddy took me to the zoo and aquarium while mommy was attending the conference. I saw tigers, monkies and zebra. I knew them from my books but they are really this time! I also saw some fishes I have never seen before.
It was exciting to meet Chengxi in Seattle. They came all the way from Portland to meet us. He is 3 1/2 months younger than I am. He is chubby and likes eating a lot, and he was a little shy just like the me 3 months ago! After I got back home, I was so excited to be home. I missed my toys and greeted each one of them even it was 11:00 pm : )
Mommy took a couple more days off after the trip and we spent great time together! The weather has been very nice and the leaves have turned pretty red or yellow color. Mommy took me to the Silver lake again to see the geese and duckies. I don't mind their poop everywhere. I had so much fun walking around and mess around the fallen leaves. I wish mommy is off work every day so that I could go there every day!
Starting Monday, Nov. 14, mommy is working half days and Daddy sent me to Serena's house so that her mom can watch me for half days. It is a big change for me. Mommy went with me to their house 4 or 5 times last week so that I could get used to them. She also brought some of my toys to their house. That helped! I didn't cry the first day as I thought it was temporarily. But the second day I figured I was wrong about it and got really mad and cried for almost 2 hours. Mommy was so worried when she called and heard me crying on the phone. She started to cry too. Serena was not allowed to say 'mama' b/c I would cry when I hear 'mama' as I miss her soooo much!
You must think I'm not a tough boy but guess what, I only cried 3 days and on Friday when Serena's mom pulled out the puzzle out of the box, I stopped crying! Daddy and mommy are so proud of me! Let's have a nice weekend together!
It was Thanksgiving Day yesterday. 3 years ago, Daddy and mommy was excited to move to this first house of theirs. Now they want a bigger one! But I know they are not going to move while they are still in Minnesota. Too much work, they think. I like it b/c I'm so used to running, pushing my toy mower around the house. The family room is now my play room : ) Mommy put together a book shelf for me and I can spend up to 10 minutes reading through my books! I have a cloth book - "Good night, Elmo!" which is my favorite. I'll look for it before bedtime or naptime. Here's a picture of me reading it. I'm in my spiderman jammie!
We were invited to Teresa and Steve's house again for a big Thanksgiving dinner. Actually it's my first time to be in their house since last year we had grandma with us. Everyone was surprised to see how big I am now. Pheobe said, "Is this the baby boy I saw last time?" Still almost everyone said I look more like Daddy. Steve said, 'Like daddy, like son'
As big shoppers as Daddy and mommy are, of course they won't miss the after-thanksgiving shopping. We went to the mall and to Toys R' Us. I'm so happy that they bought me a toy microwave oven with a bunch of fake food to bake. Now I can cook! I have had fun playing with Serena's kitchen in their house and pretending to feed others. But daddy and mommy think that's a girl's thing. That's why they bought me a microwave oven. I know Emma is getting a kitchen table for Christmas. But shh... that's a secret.
I have been fine with daddy dropping me off at Serena's house in the past few weeks. He now doesn't even have to come into the house. He just hands me to Serena's mom and leaves. Actually when he tells me we are going to Serena's house, I'll happily go and look for my hat and the cashmere scarf mommy gave me. In the afternoon, Serena's mom sometimes bakes sweet potato or cook some sweet rice soup and I can eat quite a bit.
So far so good until Serena brought home some germ from her preschool last Friday. She was having running nose and coughing. Then I started to cough a little bit on Sat. and the real bad cold and coughing started on Sun. I had never been that sick. I had running nose all the time and mommy had to apply lotion to the irritated skin very often. The worst thing is I coughed so hard that I would throw up each time. For 2 bad days, mommy and I had to change our clothes 3 times. And I didn't feel like eating anything. Mommy got some medicine and it looked like I had to take them. I cried a little bit, held my breath and took it.
We actually had my check-up on Monday for my second flu shot and 2 vaccines. It was rough. Here came a new nurse who tried so hard to check my ears to see if I had any ear infection. It wasn't Dr. Cook. She actually hurt my ears as I wasn't cooperative. She asked another big lady for help. I mean she was forcing me to lie down still. The second lady put my arms around my head and made me very uncomfortable. I was so mad. That wasn't the end. She told mommy she need some water to clean my ear tunnel b/c there's wax in there and she couldn't see clearly. My dear mommy told her she believes I don't have ear infection as I never had. She chose not to have her check on me any more. Thank you, mommy!!
Dec. 24, 2005This is my second Christmas. Last year we had grandma here, but this year I can only get Grandma's greetings from phone. Daddy had 10 days off and stayed with me at home all day. It was very nice.
Daddy and mommy got many presents for me. They gave them on behalf of my grandparents b/c they all live in China! Hooray! I got 4 from Daddy and 3 from mommy. My favorite present from Daddy is personialized matching sweatshirts for me and mommy. It has my name on it, and mommy's name on hers. However, it is a little big for me. I will have to wear it next year, and mommy has to gain some weight for hers too! My favorite from Mommy is a musical chair with a light and flippy book. I loooove it!!! This is the best toy I've ever had b/c I had wanted to climb to sit on the couch for many times but they are too high for me! When I flip the little book on the chair, I will hear my favorite puppy voice. Then I will run around the chair, and mimic the same sounds. It is great fun! You can see how much I like it from the picture. I'm trying to sit on it! I also got presents from Emma and Duncan (Emma's little cute puppy) too! Emma got me a tool platform. I think pretty soon I can help daddy fix things. I play with it every day as I like to ding-dang things!
I also got a present from Santa too as I am a good boy this year. He came down our chimney and sent me a train! I found it when I woke up on Christmas morning. It can either make the clicky-clack sound or "the Jingle Bell" music. I'm a little bit scared but also so interested in it!
Daddy and mommy have found a new daycare for me to start after the New Year's day. Sigh!! Why do I have to go to day care?! I'm just fine at home, esp with mommy. Plus, I don't know anyone there. I really hope they can change their mind!!
