Memorial to Tanya Burr, killed 15 September 2002
Kelvin Grove Cemetery: 20 September 2002
At Kelvin Grove Cemetery, Palmerston North, the girls took over as pallbearers, including friends, a cousin, and mum. The occasion - with a heavy Oak casket - was memorable. Tanya would have enjoyed that - but also knew all about carrying heavy Oak caskets from her auntie's funeral!!
Then we all took turns on the shovels to fill in her grave, such is the growing custom in NZ. When the grave was filled in, we returned to Kelvin Grove Community Centre to have afternoon tea, to thaw out from the cold at the exposed cemetery and to catch up with friends and relatives. The above photo is from TV3's website and is of the service sheet handed out at the funeral. As well as a TV3 News crew, a TV1 crew from 'Te Karere' (Maori language News) and two newspapers were present.
