Memorial to Tanya Burr, killed 15 September 2002
Stupid mail to post (unknowingly) to a murder victim
From Reader's Digest: A kitchen knife
The above Reader's Digest condensed book, CD-ROM and kitchen knife were the contents of a package redirected from Tanya's mailbox about three weeks after her death. Not too tactful to send a very sharp kitchen knife as a free gift to someone who has just been murdered by a very sharp kitchen knife, one might think?
From the NZ Police and NZ Courts: A Fine for speeding
This document advises that the NZ Police took Tanya to Court on 2 October 2002 for not paying the $510 speeding ticket she received on 15 July 2002 (for doing 141 kms per hour on SH1 near Te Kauwhata). The fine was increased to include court costs, thereby becoming $540. In fact, she could have paid it in time had she been allowed to live another day or two (i.e. a week day). That of course did not happen. The appropriate people had been advised of Tanya's death a couple of weeks earlier, but had required a copy of her death certificate. That took time arriving and was sent only the day before the above Notice arrived. The matter was subsequently resolved and the ticket wiped - along with a very big and rather distressed apology.
