CHAPTER 4

  1. (P.119 Prob.24) A force with x-component Fx acts on a 2.0-kg object as it moves along the x-axis. The object's acceleration graph (ax versus t) is shown in Figure P4.24. Draw a graph of Fx versus t.
  2. (P.120 Prob.34) The free-body diagram is as shown.
    a. Redraw the diagram.
    b. Identify the direction of the acceleration vector a and show it as a vector next to the your diagram.
    c. If possible, identify the direction of the velocity vector v and show it as a labeled vector.
    d. Write a short description of a real object for which this is the correct free-body diagram.
  3. (P.120 Prob.40) For the following situation draw a full physical representation, i.e., a motion diagram, force identification, and a free-body diagram.
You've slammed on the brakes and your car is skidding to a stop while going down a 20?hill.
  4. Challenge problem: (P.120 Prob.48) A bag of groceries is on the back seat of your car as you stop for a stop light. The bag does not slide. Draw a full physical representation of the bag.
