QUIZ 10
What is a simple pendulum? When the mass of the bob increases what do you expect the period of the oscillation will be?
The simple pendulum is defined as a point mass attached by a light inextensible string to a fixed point in a uniform gravitational field. The dimension of the mass is negligible compared with the length of the string. The string is kept taut by the weight of the mass. The point mass oscillate in the vertical plane containing the point of suspension and the point of release.
Since the period of the oscillation is determined as T = 2pÖ (L/G), the mass of the bob does not contribute to the period. Therefore the period will not change as the mass of bob increases.
