  1. There will be homework assigned for each chapter. Homework will be collected every Monday before the class begins. The overdue homework and homework through email and mailbox will not be accepted.  Only one missed assignment with legitimate excuse can be exempted, and an up-to-date average score will be granted.
  2. It is recommended that the students spend at least one hour after attending each lecture on reviewing the sections covered, and additional 3 hours during the same week for the homework; it is also advisable to answer the conceptual questions in the textbook before doing the assigned problems. Homework problems will be corrected. The homework will be graded according to its quality as 1-5 points. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points. The highest point of the homework in the semester is 5 x 14 = 70.  The solutions to the assignment will be posted on every Monday at noon.
  3. There will be 14 ten-minute quizzes on every Wednesday. The quiz problems are at the same level as the homework problems. Students should finish the quizzes within the assigned time; late-turned-in quiz will not be accepted. Each quiz is worth 5 point. The highest total quiz point is 5 x 14 = 70. Only one quiz can be exempted due to absence with legitimate reason, and an average score will be granted.
  4. There will be one comprehensive final exam, and worth 60 points. There will be no make-ups for missed quizzes and exam.
  5. The students are encouraged to use office hours and Internet for assistance.
  6. The student’s letter grade is based on the total points of the homework, the quizzes and the final.  The highest total point is 70 + 70 + 60 = 200. The distribution of the grades is as follows: A: 180, B: 150, C: 130, D: 110, with +, - at both ends, and F: below 80. No A+ will be granted.
  7. Students’ records will be posted every two weeks so that students can review their status in the class and make necessary correction of their records.
  8. A Special office hour will be scheduled after the final exam so that the students can review their final grade.  When the grades are finalized no change of the grades can be made. Do not send emails for grade inquiry.
