Final
|

- There will
be minimum homework problems assigned for each chapter. You are strongly
recommended to do your homework and student workbook on your own
immediately after the relevant lectures. Homework will not be collected.
The solutions to the problems will be posted every Tuesday at noon. It is
suggested that the students spend at least one hour after attending each
lecture on reviewing the sections covered, and additional 5 hours during
the same week for the homework; it is also advisable to do the exercises in
the textbook before doing the assigned problems.
- There
will be 12 two-minute conceptual quizzes by the end of class session
during the semester without advanced notices. Students should finish the
quizzes within the assigned time; late-turned-in quiz will not be
accepted. Each quiz is worth 2 points with right answer and 1 point with
wrong answer. Two quizzes with the lowest points will be dropped. The
quizzes weigh 20% (20 points) of the total score.
- There
will be two 75-minute-midterm exams and one two-hour-comprehensive final
exam. The midterm weighs 25% (25 points) of the total score and the final
weighs 30% (30 points) of the final score.
- There
will be no make-ups for missed quizzes and exams. Please mark the dates of
the tests on your calendar, and be on time to take the tests. If you have
schedule conflict with the test dates due to religious holidays please
contact me during the first week of the semester.
- When
solving problems during the test the students must give both answers and
the solution-process except the multiple-choice questions. You are allowed
to bring one 8½ x 11 sheet of paper with necessary equations and physical
constants prepared by yourself to the exams except quizzes. Cheatings are
strictly prohibited during the test. You will be responsible for the
serious consequence of cheating.
- The
student’s letter grade is based on the total points (100) of the quizzes,
midterms and final exam. The distribution of the grades is as follows: A: 90
and up, A-: 87-89, B+: 84-86, B: 80-83, B-: 75-79, C+: 70-74, C: 65-69,
C-: 60-64, D+: 55-59, D: 50-54, D-: 45-49, F: 44 and under. No A+ will be
granted.
