Falsely Identified Bliss
Part: 1
AUTHOR'S NOTE: "Falsely Identified Bliss" takes place a year after "Prelude To A Journey." The repercussions of the battle that was being implied throughout that story will be discussed throughout this maxi-series. Thank you muchly for reading...
Hank and Rita Pym lie in bed. It was 3 AM. They were sleeping. But not for long.
*shhk* "Wake up lovebirds."
Hank stirred and picked up his communicard as Rita rolled away, grunting with displeasure at being brought to that midpoint between sleep and conciousness.
"Bethany, this better be important." He roughly rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He was not in the mood for one of Bethany's whiny complaints at this time of morning.
"Chill out blondie. Nothing serious...really. Just Wolverine and Sabretooth lurking on our roof. IM out." *shhk*
Hank was on his toes then and into his Ant-Man costume and throwing Rita's Yellowjacket costume onto the bed yelling at her to meet him and the others on the roof.
As his old pal Ben Grimm would say: It's clobberin' time.
He could have stopped it so easily. The Fist entered his mind. He had been terrorized by the Fist for years, he knew it well. Too well.
This entrance was different. It was menacing. Yes, he had experienced that numerous times before. But...this was the sound of anger. Pure anger. Not just threats. The Fist would destroy his very essence if he didn't obey. He was completely susceptible.
And Recorder. That damn Recorder. Anytime Marc would show resistance to doing his "duty," Recorder would play back the experience from last year when Marc was warned to keep his fear and hatred in the front of his mind.
Like that was ever a problem.
He shook himself back into reality. Such meaningless thoughts really. Besides that, he had a job to perform, as much as he hated the idea of it. The window...he should go to the window.
Then he heard it. The explosion that blacked out Manhattan. And the sudden bursts of energy that made the walls of the buildings outside the massive window glow white caused Marc Spector to move to grip his chair with his gloved hands. The sounds outside...something was going on.
"Christ, what now? Hasn't this city suffered enough?" He ran to the window. Where was Recorder? He should be here for this. He was supposed to record every event, minor or major.
"Recorder! RECORDER! Get your mechanic ass in here! Get to work!" Seconds later, Recorder entered, his right arm gone from the elbow down, sparks flying wildly.
"I am here. I have already recorded this event." The mechanical being looked past Marc and at the battle outside.
"Well...what the hell is going on?" Nothing. "Answer me damnit!!" Marc had ahold of the metal man before he could spit out a reply.
"You didn't see them?" Recorder asked, genuinely surprised.
"See who? What's going on?!"
"The beings known as Victor Creed and Logan, aka's Sabretooth and Wolverine, have attacked Avengers Mansion. They're winning."
And Marc Spector thought he caught a slight smile on the face of this demented piece of metal.
"Peg, you truly are an angel."
"Rachel, stop." Peggy Carter had her normal ear to ear grin.
But Rachel was dead serious. Peggy had saved their lives too many times and this last time was the biggest save yet. Right in the middle of their battle with the remaining members of the Serpent Society, Steve and Rachel were both down and out. Rachel's back was broken and Steve was beaten to a pulp. Peggy arrived with John Jameson at the crucial moment. John paid the ultimate price. Later, his father Jonah would accuse Peggy, Rachel and Steve of leading his son into murder. But that was another story altogether. At the crucial moment, just as Death Adder was prepping a fatal blow to both Steve and Rachel's heads, Peggy and John blasted him with the adamantium gun recently created by the Canadian government. This was the first model. This was the first time it was used. It was successful. The adamantium coursed through Death Adder's body at a lethal pace and killed him by infecting his nervous system. The remaining six Serpents darted and hadn't been seen since. Rachel and Steve were finally fully healed. After months, Rachel could walk again and Steve had had enough reconstructive surgery to finally make him look like his former self. Life was regained.
And it was all thanks to Peggy.
Unfortunately, Peggy was about to need their help in the same way they had once needed hers.
Yellowjacket had already gone down. Her skull was fractured. Survival was uncertain.
Bethany Cabe - Iron Maiden - dove in front of Rita Pym's body as Sabretooth prepared to launch a lethal attack on her. After Iron Maiden was through with him, he had soared one hundred feet across Central Park. She knew he'd be back within moments due to his healing factor but the simple fact was that with him temporarily out of the action, the Avengers still had a chance of survival and the more of them that were still breathing the better their chances of taking down Wolverine. And if Wolverine could be taken down, so could Sabretooth.
It was then that an explosion caused by one of Crystal's rarely misfired energy blasts sent her, Thora and Darkhawk soaring into the lake in Avengers Park. Hank watched them fly and knew that they would never survive under there if they were unconcious. Though powerful, none were immortal. And then, just as quickly, he knew he couldn't take the time to save their lives this day. Someone else would have to do it. Hopefully Darkhawk was still concious and could bring himself and the two women back to the surface. Right now, Wolverine was Ant-Man's main priority.
Crystal and Thora were both out cold before they even hit the water. Darkhawk managed to soften the blow thanks to his suit but when he hit the water, he still hit hard. It almost blew his suit off. Thank God it didn't knock me out, he thought as he watched his teammates drifting to the bottom of the lake. He darted after them, hoping too much time hadn't elapsed already.
He pushed himself down farther and farther and farther and then...he had them! Now let's just hope we all make it to the surface. But Christopher Powell knew that would be the easy part. But, suddenly, he wasn't breathing as easily as he had before. The suit was dead. Damnit! He was now gasping for one last breath of air. One last gasp and...they had a hundred feet until the surface. He hadn't realized how deep the lake was.
Gotta...keep...pushing...come on Powell...they're depending on...on...you...
Then...
"GAASSP!" He was sucking in air like mad and at the same time he chucked Thora and Crystal onto the grass. He then ripped off his helmet in order to give the women mouth-to-mouth. In moments, both were revived.
"Agon's bones...what...what did I do?!" Crystal seemed frantic but Darkhawk knew her too well. She was simply worried that she may have impaired their position in the battle with Wolverine or - worse yet - severely injured one of her teammates.
Thora stood up and looked at the fight they had just been tossed from. "Apparently, it only affected the three of us since we were in such close range to the explosion, Crys. Don't worry about it, we're all fine at least." Another explosion. "But I'm not sure the same will be said for our teammates if Wolverine keeps them running rampant like this." And with a cry of anger and justice, the semi-goddess known as Thora flung herself hammer-first into the battle. Crystal quickly followed, lifting herself to the foray with a gust of wind.
Darkhawk ducked back into the mansion so he could repair his armor. He was of no good whatsoever to them if he had no way to fight.
And Moon Knight noted this.
Meanwhile, beneath the Blue Area of the Moon, a place once inhabited by the civilization known as the Inhumans, Uatu, the one-time Watcher of Earth, is fighting a battle of his own.
Well, he's not really fighting. Mantis and Centaurion are.
"I tell you repeatedly what to do and what not to do yet you STILL disobey me!" He slammed Centaurion face first into the ground of his base.
"You realize she's dead now because of you, don't you?!" He shook Centaurion's limpening body. "DON'T YOU?!?!"
"Leave him, you bastard! This one shall not allow you to sever his lifeline!" The woman called Mantis leapt on the Watcher's back and slung a sword around his head and to his throat. "Do you desire death, monster? Because this one shall help you find it if you do. For death has not taken this life as you claim." Uatu felt the sword getting closer to his throat. He was far more vulnerable now, almost mortal, since his powers as a Watcher were taken away. However..."Death is knocking on your door, monster. Do you yearn to answer or shall this one simply allow it to walk in? ANSWER DEMON!" And in the next second, she was down. For as Mantis threatened the Watcher, he gripped her sword and spun her off of his back and to the ground.
"You live my love?" Centaurion's bloodied face looked up from the ground. Tears dripped from his blackened eyes.
"Yes...life has not escaped this body." A cringe. She looked down and saw a sizable wound on her stomach. She had landed on her sword. "Yet anyway."
"Maybe so wench, but soon, life will be escaping both of your bodies! For you see, I no longer need EITHER OF YOU! You can both die and rot in oblivion for all I care!" Energy was forming on the Watcher's palms. "And most likely you will." The energy bolts hit them dead on. They were down.
Permanently?
Raven Darkholme simply stood there, staring at the grave. "God Graydon...why were you so foolhardy? You were so much like your damned father." A tear formed on the cup of her eyelid but she wiped it away before it could fall.
"Like all of us mother, yes?" Kurt took his mother's arm in his and held her hand. She was failing, he knew. She was still young but the woman from whom he gained his blue skin had seen too many things, had been attacked one too many times. She had watched too many people who were important to her die or just leave her behind. Victor was completely insane. Graydon was dead. Rogue had damned her. Destiny had committed suicide. Only Kurt and Katherine were left. And they couldn't stay much longer, she knew that. The Morlocks needed them. They had been here for a year, the Morlocks existing underneath Aura's temporary leadership.
"Yes my son...like all of us." She sighed a deep sigh. Things were going to change again. The last year had been stable. For the first time, life was somewhat stable. And then the news about Victor and Logan made its way to Germany and they all got cold chills at the thought. Before that, the man whose dream all three of them had once fought to preserve had sent two members of the vicious Serpent Society - King Cobra and Puff Adder - to murder Raven. Luckily, Kurt and Kitty had been there when the attack happened and managed to stop the attack with the help of Captain America and Diamondback as well as that of Coachwhip, a former Serpent who was killed in the battle.
Peace had come quickly after that. Kitty would take long walks with Raven around the castle grounds. She would make Raven smile with her dreams of children and family life. She knew her mother-in-law craved grandchildren before she died. Rogue, even though she was finally able to touch others, was so, well, rogue, that she refused to have children much to Gambit's dismay. Graydon never had the chance to have a wife, much less children. Kitty felt sorry for her.
Kurt and Raven stood there in front of their brother and son's grave and they grieved silently for one another and for him.
"Hey you two." Kitty walked up and linked with Raven's free arm.
"Mother, we must..."
"Yes Kurt, I know, I know. We might as well get this over with." The three separated from one another and began walking back towards Darkholme Castle. "You two go and know that I love you both. Don't say good-bye." She kissed them both and embraced them and then turned and headed for the main door.
Once inside, Raven Darkholme began preparing her evening tea.
She also began making preparations for Xavier's demise.
And so was Xavier. Suicide was his only escape and he knew that. Penance had to be locked up after her attempt to kill him last year. He wished she hadn't been.
She was speaking more frequently as of late but she still had to be kept alone. They had all expected it. Xavier told them to do so. That's how he explained the "gibberish" she spoke about. Why would Xavier try to kill three of his former students? She was simply upset - to the point of insanity even - because of Emma Frost's death.
Skin didn't buy it. Neither did Phoenix.
And Xavier knew that.
She-Hulk and her cousin the Hulk were fighting side-by-side. Everyone else was down. Hulk had Wolverine by the throat but he had been deeply cut by the runt's teeth. Blood was seeping from his stomach and arms.
She-Hulk was in a face to face confrontation with Sabretooth. He was back, needless to say. He had her pinned to the ground but she was holding her own against him. Strenght versus strength. That's what both battles were about.
"Bruce...*ack*...Bruce!" Jennifer Walters had an idea.
"What Jen?" Another swipe from Logan's "claws." He had unsheathed them now. Bruce noted that they were longer than they had ever been. At least three feet now. Incredible.
"I've got an...idea. Let's switch off."
"You got it." And with that, Bruce Banner ripped Victor Creed's body from its position over his cousin and slammed him onto the wet grass.
Jennifer Walters flung her body at Wolverine's and they rolled across the knoll and to the edge of the lake. Is this thing attracting us tonight or what? Jennifer jokingly thought to herself. But then she realized how unfunny that was when she felt her face meeting the sand below the water.
She was drowning.
"Captain, Hate has a question." The one-time Avatar of Love glared at the woman she had been following. Love hated her.
"What is it?" Captain Universe twirled around and looked at the massive entity.
Hate hated her too. "Who are you woman? Are you an Earthling?"
The Captain was taken somewhat aback by the question but she remained calm and composed in the face of these two feminine beings. "An Earthling? No, no, no...I'm not an Earthling. I am from Earth I suppose you could say." Yes, that worked. "Why do you wonder?"
"No true reason, Captain. Simply that we have noticed your longing stares at the planet." The Avatar of Hate glared at the mortal woman.
"Do you want to know who I am, Hate? Do you, Love? Where is that fool, the Collector? I'm sure he wants to know who I am too!"
The Avatars were shocked by this outburst. They hated the woman but they knew better than to toy with her. She could very easily destroy them. Lord Chaos and Master Order observed.
"She is foolish, is she not Chaos?"
"Indeed Order but it is not our place to stop the woman. She shall be her own downfall."
"SILENCE! Both of you! I don't want to hear any of it!" And Captain Universe was gone in a split-second.
A Quinjet hovered above them. Wolverine recognized it all too well. It was one of the Canadian governments gifts from Stark years ago. "Damnit Creed! Leave the Jolly Green Giant! We got trouble!" Logan yanked the unconcious She-Hulk from the lake and tossed her onto the enbankment. Creed punched Hulk in the face and then drop kicked him. He was already semi-unconcious. That was just the final blow.
"Stop!" A voice from above.
"Damnit Creed...come on!!!!" Logan was panting. He wasn't tired. He was scared. And judging by the staggered breaths behind him, so was Creed.
"I'm moving as fast as I can runt!"
"We said stop!" Vindicator landed directly in front of Logan shocked him with a bio-blast.
"Same goes for you blondie." Sasquatch landed directly in front of Sabretooth who in-turn slammed into the hair beast face first. He was down.
"Nice job Heather."
"You too Walter." Heather shot a wave of energy into the air as a signal to the rest of their teammates to join them.
And one by one, they dropped down: Windshear, Marrina, Namor, Jolt, Gamma Knight, Maple Leaf, Majesty, Puck, Wild Child, Lady Deathstrike, Murmur and Maverick.
They were Gamma Flight.
And they were here to stop the Duo from killing the Avengers.
After all, if the Duo were to kill them, what was the point in Gamma Flight's being here?
