Tapestry, or previously known as Art Tapestry, is a massive busking event organised by the Central Singapore ˇ°High-Fiveˇ± Youth Alumni. Running for 3 consecutive years, Tapestry seeks to provide young upstarts in performance and give established music mongers their due recognition from the public, as well as to raise funds for My Straits Times Pocket Money Fund.
Tapestry was conceptualised during Camp Imagine! 2002, which was organised by the Central Singapore Community Development Council (CSCDC). Quick to realize the lack of performing venues for amateurs and start-up bands in Singapore, the group of motivated campers soon found the reason behind Tapestry. And to make this event even more meaningful, the pioneer organising committee decided to adopt My Straits Times Pocket Money Fund as its official beneficiary.
Art Tapestry 2001 was a hit. Happening in various venues along Orchard Road, many budding performers, who were chosen through island-wide auditions, were given the opportunity to busk in the limelight. Almost $2000 was raised for My Straits Times Pocket Money Fund just over the weekend.
Because it was so successful, Tapestry is now organised by the Central Singapore ˇ°High-Fiveˇ± Youth Alumni annually. Over the past two years, Tapestry has provided more than 150 bands the chance to perform in public, and raised more than $3500 for its beneficiary.
This year, Tapestry is set to become the biggest busking event organised by the youth for the youth. Held on 24 and 25 July, this celebration of music and dance will certainly bring some excitement to many parts of Orchard Road.
