Information about Homework |
A homework policy will be sent home and signed by the parents and students at the beginning of each year. All students will be expected to abide by the terms.
Homework in my classroom will be given Monday's through Thursday's and it will always be due to myself the following morning.
The pages of homework will vary throughout the year from 2 - 4 pages, consisting of math, handwriting, and literacy. It will be an extension of work that was completed that day in class.
Once a month students will also be given a list of Word Wall Words to take home and study. The list will grow from 5 words in September to 40 words in June.
After completion of the child's homework each evening I would ask that a parent/guardian would initial each page after its accuracy and legibility is checked.
About Word Wall Words |
Word wall words can sometimes be described as high-frequency words. These words are among the most common words in the English language.
Some examples of these words are the, of, is, and my.
In most cases our word wall words cannot be spelled phonologically, this is why it is important for the students to become familiar with them just by sight and frequency.
Word wall words will be reviewed by the students and I every morning. Each word will be said, spelled and then said three more times (the, t-h-e, the-the-the).
A word wall test will be given to the students once a month and a list of the words will be sent home about a week prior the test.
Learning these words will be crucial to the students and their ability to read and write.
