LAURENT
PERNOT
France
"The whole dimension
of my work is based on a sensitive approach of life, implying the presence of
the human body, and attempting to convey allegory and poetry. I have always
been interested in philosophic and scientific issues, especially those that
deal with consciousness and life's patterns.
I consider contrasts to be the basic building materials for reality; the body
exposes a brittleness, which supposes at the same time the tragic and the marvellous
character of life, suffering with pleasure, humanity with divinity. Moreover,
I endeavour to represent what all forms of lives have in common - birth, reproduction,
with death, by asking inherent questions about life, about our impulse to live."

Laurent Pernot studied photography and multimedia in Paris followed by residencies in France, Japan and Germany. Now concentrating on video installations, he exhibits regularly in Canada, China, Italy, India, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and France. He has also worked on collaborative projects in Paris, Sapporo and Milan and is scheduled to undertake scholarships in Italy, Norway, and Canada.
