DENISE
POWLING
England
"…All my work is made with a delicate touch…
things are stitched, folded, carved or given with a feminine hand. Infused with
personal narratives you'll see 'fragility', but also 'grit strength', 'honesty'
as well as 'nonchalance'… up close, my work attempts to challenge the era of
the 'power woman' by revealing the strength that lies at the heart of what it
is to be feminine…"

Denise Powling's work is
informed by her first career as a dancer. Having trained with the Rambert School
of Ballet and Contemporary Dance she worked in France, Germany, South Africa,
Wales and England before turning to choreography for which she was the recipient
of a number of awards. Four years ago she re-trained in fine art, specialising
in performance and installation, combining her performance skills with a new
found ability to make exquisite, delicate and impermanent objects.
