The writer:

Frank Herbert is another brilliant western U. S. coast author. He had a diverse career and developed some of the most complex and interesting worlds. While well-known for his Dune series, he produced many fictional and non-fictional works of merit. Several movies have been based upon his works and his son has continued his legacy in his own literary endeavors.

Note: Reviews that follow are 50%/50% subjective and objective format containing many story spoilers, and may reference several other Science Fiction or other novels for comparisons. Character references will include;

  • name lists and as appropriate character alias(es),
  • a character's political or social alliances, and...
  • their skills or peculiarities.
  • Oh! In some cases a picture may be warranted.
Element references will present technological, religio-socio-political and fictional race or entity (biological, etc) details. Further, galactic, solar and planetary references will be assembled in some order.
Future plans may incorporate real world events - like which authors got the most attention outside of fandom or by "the authorities." A conspiracy nuts dream perhaps, but interesting writing nonetheless.

The Worlds of Frank Herbert

The Worlds of Frank Herbert - Have read some but not all. Can't remember it. Opps! How helpful is that???

Dune - read several times; an excellent story. Review and character and element references to follow. Obtained Hardcover finally!!!

Dune Messiah - read and well enjoyed.
Children of Dune - read but need to re-read soon.
God Emperor of Dune - Reading this one now. Great extension to the religion as parent/government theme. Builds upon "Children of Dune" Leto II character undergoing metamorphasis. This book is a bridge between the first three messiah stories to the actualizing of the "Golden Path" envision by Leto II - the Worm who is God. Sets the stage for the final two books quite well. Be sure to read this one BEFORE the last two or you won't have enough details to get all the references. {...unlike me who read this one last!}
Heretics of Dune - One of my favorites. This text is an action "tome" with excellent development of the many forces residing in the Empire. This text extends the rich details which make this series an epic tale. For example, the Teg character is a beautiful transition from the primary Atriedes family members. Teg is a Bashar - a commander serving the Bene Gesserits far into the future. Through the succesful Bene Gesserit breeding program, Teg's characteristics are brought to action in a very compelling story. Trained in the Bene Gesserit ways and as a Mentat, he is a formidable commander. A great intro to the new adversaries and the various worlds outside of Arrakis/Dune.
Dune Chapterhouse - A grand finale. Two Gholas. A new batch of "witches" and some new and old nasty adversaries to keep the plot moving. Final get to read about the Bene Gesserit stronghold and details about their world. Oh...and...lots of sex! SEX SEX SEX. Well. Maybe just some.
Destination: Void - the one text the sank my boat. Sorry, Frank. This one just "drugg out a wee-bit too far."
The Dosadi Experiment - Excellent!
The Eyes of Heisenberg - not read but acquired.
The God Makers - not read yet.
The Jesus Incident - not read yet.
The Santaroga Barrier - an excellent story set in the Northwest. Real cool - similar to a Stephen King work and Philip K. Dick. Can't elaborate much more here. Except to say I like this story very much.
Soul Catcher - not read yet.
Whipping Star - Great story.
The White Plague - not read yet.
Eye - a compliation of stories; read and enjoyed most.
Under Pressure - read; fairly entertaining underwater tale about submariners.
The Lazarus Effect - acquired but not read yet.
The Green Brain - acquired but not read yet.
