• Faculty: The health and sport sciences faculty consists of both full-time educators and professionals, such as athletic trainers, coaches and athletic administrators. Students wishing to pursue a degree in physical therapy will complete a major in either biology or athletic training. Students in the health and fitness management program have worked for the National Dairy Council setting up a nutritional program for athletes and other active people; local school districts developing exercise/activity programs for handicapped students; nursing facilities creating exercise programs for the elderly; and in other facilities designing and implementing health and fitness programs. Some common courses taken by all health and sport sciences majors include: care and prevention of athletic injuries, personal health, first aid, nutrition, human anatomy, chemistry and physiology. The exercise science program provides students who wish to pursue advanced degrees in the areas of health sciences or exercise physiology a heavily science-based curriculum including advanced work in biology, chemistry and mathematics.
