For a Millenium of Life: Stop Death Penalty

In the occasion of the world-wide campaign against death penalty organized by Amnesty International wich extended until halfway through the year 2000, AUMA took the initiative to work jointly with this organization in favour of human rights to  organize a Mail Art exhibition supporting the mentioned postulates. The first one was in Tarragona and then, the group keeps working to organize a second one in Puerto Rico curated by the artist Elías Adasme, member of AUMA..

This last exhibition took place in the gallery Plaza del Soportal in San Juan de Puerto Rico with 370 works by 156 artists from 27 countries. The opening was in November 16th and the exhibition lasted until December 10th. The exhibition has a full news coverage and appeared in all the most important newspapers of the country.

The most important novelty at this exhibition, as in Tarragona, was that visitors could select any work and, by paying the postage, select a country where the capital death is in effect to send the work to the governments of that country as a protest. This way, the audience take a participative role in a mail art action against death penalty.

The MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art) from Puerto Rico, will include this exhibition in a CD-ROM wich will contain "the most important artistic events in Puerto Rico from 1950 to 2000".
