The Freedom Force was a coalition of legendary heroes and Filmation original characters (Isis and Super Samurai) in the same vein. The character design for Hercules had been used initially in Filmation's earlier Space Sentinels. Isis had previously appeared in her own live action series. Joanna Cameron portrayed her in that version, but Diane Pershing provided the voice for the animated version.

The group lived in a pyramid in the Valley of Time, which they defended from evil wizards, an evil sorceress, and in one case a man from the future. The FF holds the distinction of being the only Super 7 segment to have been officially released on video. A likely reason the shorts were singled out for release may have been the popularity of Filmation's later similar sword and sorcery fantasies, He-Man and Blackstar.
