Physical Description: |
Amikaj is your fairly typical A’vredon female: tall, slight yet strong, with long hair, pale skin, and piercing eyes. Of course, her eyes are a slightly unnatural shade for the family – most of the A’vredons boast eyes ranging from blue to red and every shade in between, but not silver. Not to mention, her pupils aren’t black, but a soft silvered gray just a few shades darker than her irises. As such, she’s a rather colorless woman, and if it wasn’t for having to wear the A’vredon colors – black and crimson – at times, she’d undoubtedly decide to wear just grays and silvers, and become completely unmemorable.
Her outfit is one of long flowing garments, most notable of the bunch being a sleeveless robe that falls to within an inch of the floor and is typically belted closed with a silken sash. Under it she wears a long sleeved tunic, the sleeves fitting fairly tight to her arms, but having decorative pieces that sweep down off them and give the appearance of bat wings. She often wears soft, skin tight riding gloves in order to protect the skin of her hands from the sun, and the cuffs of the gloves are hidden under the edges of her sleeves. Her pants, though often not visible, are slightly loose and bound to her lower legs with silken strips, over which her soft boots are fitted. The coloration of this entire outfit can vary. During times when she’s required to show her allegiance, the main body of the clothing will be black, with crimson geometric borders and small, mesmerizing patterns in silver over the rest of it. At other times, she can be seen wearing soft gray, with darker gray borders and mesmerizing patterns in a gray just a shade lighter than the main color of the outfit. |
Personality: |
Amikaj is a confusing young woman to be around, even for her own family. Her stubborn pride means that she refuses to give in, even when proven wrong, unless she’s forced. Yet, somehow, she takes being forced with a good natured ease and never brings up her previous position again unless it becomes obvious that she was right to begin with, and even then she never brags or boasts. Her speech is proper and free of contractions, like her entire family’s speech is, and yet her attitude is one of quiet disrespect and untamable wildness – she loves to ride alone, and has her own half-wild ke’kor steed that few others can touch. She has a rather mysterious – yet often tinged with sadness – air about her, heightened by her knowledge of everyone she comes across, even perfect strangers. As a result, she isn’t much of a people-person, and often avoids big parties and gatherings if at all possible. |
History and Notes: |
Amikaj – named after the great blue Soul Star that rides across the night sky and is rumored to herald the births and deaths of great heroes, depending upon what moon it rides over – has a rather tame history, compared to some of the legendary A’vredons that she’s related to. There’s no great war in her time, no catastrophes threatening, not even a simple –rumor– of trouble anywhere in the world for an A’vredon such as her to have been warranted being born. For she is a special woman, and such as she are only ever born at the behest of the gods for reasons that are often clear at their birth. Yet the world is quiet and peaceful, treaties hold, and even the Drak’om-kar are silent in their warrens beneath the surface.
Amikaj personifies the power of the A’vredon lineage with her ghostly presence and unearthly knowledge of everything. In the far distant past, Vredon and his sister Osanasi made a pact with the god Nalerias, a pact that granted them the power to venture into the realms of death – the realms of Aveis and Neneul, and even the Kelsna, the Gods’ Realm – and call forth brave warriors to fight alongside them. It was with this boost in their ranks that the A’vredon lands were freed, and it has been with that boost in their ranks that the A’vredon lands remain free. The price to be paid for this power to summon up the dead is a high one, though. All A’vredons must have a lifebond from the time they reach maturity – sixteen years of age by tradition – until the time they die, or else their minds will fragment. A bondless A’vredon over the age of sixteen courts insanity every single day they live without a bond, and for A’verdons like Amikaj – those who exist more in the higher realms than in the lower, material world – nearly crippling pain becomes a daily companion. Amikaj exists much more in the higher realms, as her eyes show, and finds it more difficult every day to force herself into the constraints of the material world that her body was born into. Without an anchor – a man or a woman lifebonded to her – she is adrift in the world, and holding herself in place by her will alone.
Her vision is the best clue as to how little she exists in the material world, as she sees things, not in colors, but in maeh, maireh, and souls. There is no secret safe from her vision, now that she has begun to understand what it is that she’s seeing, and there’s no way to hide from her, as things like ‘walls’ and ‘material objects’ have no meaning to her. Though she can’t walk through walls or anything else, she can see through them with ease, which causes a bit of difficulty… after all, if she can’t –see– them, then she certain can’t be aware of when she’s about to run into one! Hence her shadow, Kaisi, who’s there to guide her from place to place, and around objects like tables, chairs, and walls. If she’s pressed, Amikaj can use the maeh and maireh that flows through the world in order to locate such obstacles, but it’s a trying business and tires her swiftly. Color is a very hard concept for her to grasp, as most of what she sees is in white, black, and varying shades of gray, depending upon the type of soul she’s looking at. She –can– see features, though, because the ‘light’ of the soul illuminates the entire figure of the person. Granted, her description of a person will focus much more on the varying subtleties of that person’s soul than on what that person’s physical appearance is, but she can describe appearance, even if not colors. Also, the concept of ‘day’ and ‘night’ is another hard one for her, as the only difference between the two, for her, is that during the ‘day’ her pale skin can burn in seconds, from something called the ‘sun’ that she can feel, yet not see.
As of now, she’s currently rather disturbed about a certain young exorcist by the name of Skahj who recently arrived at the A’vredon castle. By means that she is completely unsure of, he’s a closed book to her, the only such person she has ever met. The mystery that he represents both attracts her and makes her want to flee, and so she’s caught wavering in the middle, unable to move one way or another. |
