the 1st Tuesday of each month at 1pm at the Kings Meadows Community Health Centre. The following Monday is 'Bingo' day. This is held at the same time and place and is fun for everyone.
We have had an average of 24 members at our meetings over the last twelve months and about sixteen to twenty for Bingo. Quite a pleasing result as the health of some of our members has not been so good.
We started our social activities off by going to L.I.P.S Annual Luncheon at the Forth Hotel on 14th June 2001. We all had a beautiful lunch and the trip on Peter McDermott's but was very restful and enjoyable. A big thank you to Peter and Joanne for our morning tea plus a donation of $50 to help us help Janice and Les and Brenda.
The 3" Australian Lungnet Seminar was held 1" December 2001 at the LGH level 2 Lecture theatre between 10.30am and 2.30pm. There were approximately 70 attended and were welcomed by Dr Jim Markos. He then gave a talk about "how the lungs work and what can go wrong". Steven Salter and Jeannette Hawker spoke of their experiences during and after "Lung Transplants" treatment following.
We have had guest speakers this year. Gaile Stebbings, a podiatrist, spoke on caring for our feet. Margaret Egan from the Carer's Association told us of extra help we can receive if we know the right phone number to ring. Especially respite for the carer in some cases!! As well as the patient. Yvomne Green from the Asthma Foundation also helped some of our members with 'how to use puffers and medications' the right way.
The Melbourne Cup was celebrated with soup and finger food lunch and slices, etc. This was held at the meeting room at Kings Meadows. We had a couple of sweeps and it was a very enjoyable afternoon.
Our Christmas Lunch was held on 7" December at the Riverside Hotel. We had a very good roll-up with some of our friends from L.I.P.S (Devonport) traveling up, everyone enjoyed a great day. We also drew our raffle prize winners. We sold tickets in this for three months.
Although having no meeting in January some group members decided to go out for a 'Scallop or Steak' night at the Riverside Hotel. This seem to have become our second home. February 16" 2002 was our 'Mystery Bus Trip'! ! Nobody knew where we were going and
