lunch. This proves very popular and members bring friends
along and there are usually about forty people in attendance. Last year the management had prizes for "lucky door, etc" for everyone attending and some of our members took home quite a lot of the prizes. It is a lovely venue, on the flat so that members have no trouble with stairs, etc and we are all made very welcome by management and staff alike.
We also had our Christmas Lunch there on 6th December and drew our raffle prizes as well. A loyal team have been selling raffle tickets throughout September, October and November. About $1700 was raised less expenses. A big thank you to Laurie and Thelma for all their work in organizing prizes and selling points and a very big 'thank you' to all our sellers, don't know where we'd be without you.
We started our social activities off by going to L.I.P.S Annual Birthday Luncheon at the RSL on 13" June 2002. We had twenty starters and all enjoyed a beautiful lunch and the bus trip on Peter McDermott's coach was very restful and enjoyable. Thank you so much to Peter and Joanne for looking after us so well and to Joanne for out morning tea. A big 'thank you' to L.I.P.S for a terrific day.
Speakers at our meetings during the year included Rose Hennelly from "Independent Living" who gave a talk on some of the equipment she brought along which could possibly help some of our members. Edith Kerr and Thelma Peet spoke on travelling with oxygen. Edith spoke on travelling by boat and Thelma tackled the plane travel. Very interesting and anyone planning on travel can contact either of these members for information. Then of course we have Jenny Larner who keeps us up to date on puffers, medications etc. We also had Lyn Gray from St John Ambulance to speak on first aid.
One subject was "Loss of Consciousness" and carried through to "Choking". This was most interesting. "Thank you Lyn". Half a dozen of our members also went to George Town twice to see if a support group could get started there but there were no starters, except for Joyce and Tom Polglaise and they were very keen.
Many of our members joined with people from around the state for a statewide Seminar which was held on the 19th October 2002 at the LGH level 2 Lecture theatre between 10.30am and 2.30pm. Speakers on the day included our own Dr James Markos, Dr David Reid, Respiratory Physician, Royal Hobart Hospital, Mrs Patricia Turner, who gave a personal perspective on "When you can't breathe, nothing else matters”,
