Brandy (1994)
Never Say Never (1998)
Full Moon (2002)
She sings. She models. She acts. Brandy’s style is ever developing and she has had a great many hits in spite of her age. Signed at 14, she had her first album at the age of 16, singing songs for teenagers from a teenagers point of view. Now as she has matured, she sings songs for a more adult audience from an adults point of view. In this way she has stayed true to herself as well as to her fans.
Brandy is from a family in the music industry, her mother Sonja Bates-Norwood is a manager and producer, her father Willie Norwood Sr. is a gospel singer, and her brother Ray J (Willie Norwood Jr.) is a singer as well. Ray J who also acts is set to star in a new film produced by Brandy about the relationship between a brother and sister. Predictable maybe...but worth checking out when it is released.
Influenced by such names as Whitney Houston (with whom she acted in the Disney version of Rogers & Hammersteins’ Cinderella) and Mary J Blige. She has in her own right influenced those such as her younger brother Ray J. Her most well known hits include "I Wanna Be Down", "Baby", "Best Friend" (dedicated to Willie Norwood jr. Aka Ray J, who the song was written about), "The Boy Is Mine" (duet with Monica), "Sittin’ On Top Of The World" (featuring Mase, who is managed by Brandy’s mother Sonja Bates-Norwood, and who also stars in a few episodes of "Moesha" as Moesha’s boyfriend).
Brandy has a new album for 2002, called 'Full Moon' and it's released on March 5th 2002 in the U.S. The first single from the album is entitled 'What About Us?' and it's hitting the U.S. radio stations right about now.
This is what Brandy told Launch.com earlier this year. "Moving out on my own was a big step for me, because I've always been around my parents and protected by them. I get a chance to make my own decisions," explains the recently married Brandy.
"I feel sexy. I feel like a brand-new person," Brandy gushes. And it shows. She's definitely all grown up now, so don't expect the childlike innocence of her onetime alter ego Moesha. "Moesha is dead," is all Brandy says when asked about what fans of the hit television show might expect from her newest album.
Brandy was extremely selective when it came to the material she recorded for her third album. "It took a while to get the sound we wanted, because I didn't want that sound that's already saturated the industry," she explains. "It's important for me to be a trendsetter and change the game."
She's also a vegan now, avoiding the hamburgers she once consumed on a daily basis. "I'm eating to live instead of living to eat," she says. "My body is my temple, where my soul resides."
