It all started on April 1 when I took a
home pregnancy test. Upon first glance, I thought that the test was negative
and left it on the bathroom sink on my way out the door to work. I figured
I'd deal with it later when I got home from school. Upon arriving at home,
I found the directions to double check the reading and was incredibly surprised
and happy to find out that it was positive! Unfortunately, Tim was gone with
a school group to Michigan until late that evening, so I couldn't tell anyone
immediately. His absense, however, did give me the perfect opportunity
to scheme up an April Fool's joke to play on him. Needless to say,
when I told him, he was delighted!
The day after finding out, we went to the
hospital to have a blood test done to check the HCG levels and confirm the
pregnancy. Again, the test came out positive. A week later, we
found ourselves in the doctor's office with our first picture of our little
one. You can see the picture in our Ultrasound Gallery.
For the first five or six weeks, I felt
great. Then, the morning sickness hit! It was awful. I
guess it probably wasn't as bad as some people experience, but it defintely
wasn't enjoyable. Teaching full-time with a class that started at 7:30A.M.
and the other stresses that go along with the job didn't help matters
any. I found myself coming home about 3:30P.M. after my classes were
over and crawling into bed for the rest of the day/evening because I felt
so sick. I counted the days until the first trimester would be over.
Thankfully, the morning sickness ended shortly into the second trimester.
I have friends who were sick the entire pregnancy!
Ironically, my first trimester ended when
the school year ended, but I thoroughly enjoyed my summer! Here are
some first trimester pictures.
