Chapter 7 – She Returns

“If I have to watch them mope around anymore I’m going to go crazy!” Cassie whispered fiercely.  “I must remedy this.”

Sneaking out to the porch where the boys were currently relaxing, she perched herself behind one of the chairs and watched them for a moment.

Wufei was sitting down, reading a book (which he did most of the time, after Trowa and Heero had left), while Quatre and Duo were talking about something nearby.  They seemed much more subdued from how they normally acted.  We’ll fix that.

“Cassandra, I don’t know why you are hiding,” Wufei said suddenly, not looking up from his book.  “But we know you’re there.”

“Oh good,” Cass purred, standing up and grinning very evilly.  She kept her left hand behind her back.  “I was wondering if you were going soft on me.”

“…what are you hiding?” Quatre asked cautiously.

“I’m glad you asked!” She replied cheerfully—then launched the water balloon she was hiding straight at the blonde pilot.

“ACK!” He exclaimed as it exploded against his chest.  “Cassie!”

Duo started laughing, but it didn’t last long as he got hit in the side of the head, and thoroughly drenched.  “OI!”

“Don’t you dare!” Wufei warned, leaping up from his chair and glaring.  Cassie shrugged and launched one at him, which he dodged.  “I mean it!”

“Don’t think you’re getting away, Wu-chan~” Cassie sing-songed, grinning again.  He waited for her to throw another…

Then yelped as he was hit from behind.  Duo was standing behind him, snickering; he had caught it before it could break.  “Maxwell!”

“You heard her!” He laughed.  “You’re not getting away!”

“Guys, I really don’t think we should—ACK!”  Quatre barely dodged a balloon flung at him.

“Water fight!” Cassie yelled, then started launching balloon after balloon, dodging when one of them would catch it and throw it back.

Later, as soaking-wet boys and an equally drenched fangirl trudged into the house, Cassie stayed back a bit to watch them.  “Nimnu kanryou.” She whispered with a smile, and then bounced in after them.

*knock knock*

“I’ve got it!” Duo called, walking to the front door.

Opening the door, he blinked as Amy smiled nervously and bowed.  “Good afternoon,” She greeted quietly.

“Uhh…hi.” He said carefully.

“I was wondering if….that girl was in.” She said hopefully.  “I would like to speak with her, if it isn’t too much trouble.”

“Uhm….sure, hold on.” Duo said, confused, then leaned inside.  “Oi, Cass!  You’ve got a visitor!”

“Is it a hot guy?” She called back from wherever she was.  “Preferably straight and single?”

“Nope, it’s your pal Amy!” He snickered, shaking his head.

“…fine, fine.  I’ll be there in a minute.” She sighed.

Emerging from the kitchen, she pushed the sleeves of her borrowed sweatshirt up and gave Amy a Look.  “Can I help you?” She asked.

“Uhm, yes,” Amy replied, glancing at Duo; the braided pilot shrugged and headed off.  “I came to apologize.”

“Apologize?”  Cassie repeated, raising an eyebrow.  “What for?”

“The other day…” She said, folding her hands in front of her.  “I shouldn’t have brought Miss Relena here, but I was only trying to help her!  She seemed so…so happy that she would be able to see that boy again, and…I just wanted to help.” She finished miserably.

“Uhh….apology accepted.” Cass uttered, confused.

Amy nodded and smiled.  “And I wanted to get to know you and your friends better, to be honest.  It’s very rare that we get new people around here, especially people my age.”

“Uhh…I don’t think we’ll be here long,” Cassie lied; she couldn’t exactly tell her that the boys were actually the infamous Gundam pilots, now could she?  “We’re all on vacation from uh…school!  Yeah!”

“Oh,” Amy said, lowering her head.  “I see.”

I don’t see why it would such a bad thing for her to meet them…Cass thought, watching the girl. “Would you…like to come in for a bit?  We’re having a late breakfast, but I’m sure there’s enough food.”

Amy blinked and glanced up.  “Really?”

“Why not?” Cass said, smiling.  And I do kinda feel bad for treating her the way I did…damn conscience!

She led Amy into the kitchen, where the three pilots were waiting for Cass to return to start breakfast.  All three glanced up sharply as they saw Amy following her.

“Guys, this is Amy,” She stated, motioning to the girl.  “She wants to get to know us better, since we’re the only ‘kids’ in the area besides her.”  At the looks she got, Cass only shrugged.

“It’s nice to meet you,” Quatre said politely, standing up and bowing.  “My name is Quatre, and this is Duo and Wufei.”

“It’s nice to meet you too,” Amy replied just as politely, bowing.

“I thought maybe she could join us for breakfast?  Unless you all started already…” Cassie narrowed her eyes at the boys playfully.

“No, we haven’t started.” Quatre replied, chuckling.  “Please join us, Amy.”

Cass took the seat next to Duo, while Amy took the one next to Quatre; they both started chatting quietly.

“Oi,” Duo whispered, elbowing Cass.  “Why’d you do that?”

“I felt bad,” Cassie shrugged, glancing at him.  “And this way, I can watch her better.”

”Watch her better?” Duo blinked.

Cassie nodded and leaned closer.  “Heero might not think she’s a threat, but I have a bad feeling…”

“Women’s intuition?” Duo grinned.

“You can call it that,” Cassie replied dryly.  “She just seems…I don’t know.  Her personality seems familiar, for some reason…”

She trailed off and watched the girl from the corner of her eye.  She seemed polite enough, and the trendy clothes she was wearing almost seemed out of place.

*“Fine!  I was wandering in the forest and found this place and wanted to look around, okay?!  And what the heck are YOU doing here?”*

But she acted so different back in the forest, Cass thought, eyes narrowing.  Something’s up.
