April Fool's Day Joke

WELLINGTON : REUTERS - NEW ZEALAND police and motorists did not think that an April Fool's day joke was funny. It caused a terrible traffic jam in Wellington on April 1.
News reports came in saying that many killer whales had beached near Wellington's ferry terminal. A radio station had advised motorists to stop and have a look at the whales on the beach. Whale beachings are common in New Zealand, although not for killer whales. Killer whales are also called orca.
Traffic almost stopped and the police found it very difficult to get it moving again. Heavy rain also made the road conditions very dangerous.
The "killer whales" were really rubber dorsal fins attached to wooden blocks which had been fixed to the seabed.
However, many people including the navy, believed the story on the radio. The truth was discovered before an rescue mission started. A police boat went out to collect the fake fins before more motorists would believe the joke.
It is traditional on April 1, which is known as April Fools day , to play practical jokes.
