Subject: Tatted Round Robin Pattern
Dear Friends,
I have finally completed typing up the pattern of our Round Robin doily.
Here it is for you, as thanks for your many kindnesses through our joys and
sadnesses over the past 6 months. One day I may be able to do a pricking!!

This is a gorgeous doily, which will vary in size according to the yarn you use. Some like
it as fine as possible; some like it shining in silk; others like it multi-coloured. Use your
favourite yarn and make it beautiful, thinking all the while of us. It yours now.

ch 5 - 5
r 5 + (to 2nd last p on last leaf of trefoil) 5 - 5 clr rw* (Repeat from *
to * around doily).
Round 4 (Insertions by David - aka Downunder)
These 4 leaved clovers sit immediately above each of the 3 leaved clovers in
the previous round.
r 3 - 4 - 4 - 3 clr (don't rw)
r 3 + (to last p made) 4 - 4 - 3 clr (don't rw)
r 3 + (to last p made) 4 - 3 + (to p on chain in previous round - the closest p to the
trefoil on a long chain) 3 - 4 - 3 clr (don't rw) r 3 + (to last p made) 4 - 3 + (to p on chain in
previous round - the closest p on long chain on the other side of the trefoil) 3 - 4 +
(to 1st p on 1st r) 3 clr; cut and do with ends what you usually do. Repeat 8 times
around doily.
Round 5 (Jenny - the ex-Okker)
Large flower: nice tiny picots look best: r 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 clr;
climb out with a mock picot.
[If you can't do this then an alternative way would be:
r 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 clr; cut and tie. Attach yarn to one of the
picots just made]
*ch 6 + (to next p by lock stitch or shuttle thread)* repeat * to * 6 times
*ch 8 + (to next tiny space between chains in previous round)* 6 times
*ch 10 + (to next tiny space between chains in previous round)* 6 times
*ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (as above)* 6 times
ch 6 - 6 + (to p on r of 4 leaved clover) 6 - 6 - 6 rw
trefoil: r 5 - 5 + (to 1st of 5 p on last chain of large flower) 5 - 5 clr
(don't rw)
r 5 + (to last p made) 5 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 5 clr (don't rw)
r 5 + (to last p made) 5 - 5 - 5 clr rw
ch 5 - 5 - 5 - 5 rw
r 5 + (to last p on last r of trefoil) 5 - 5 clr rw
ch 5 - 5 + (to middle p on middle of 3 long chains in previous round (Jana's)
5 - 5 rw
r 5 + (to last p on last r made) 5 - 5 clr rw
ch 5 - 5 - 5 - 5 rw
trefoil: r 5 + (to last p on last ring made) 5 - 5 - 5 clr (don't rw)
r 5 + (to last p made) 5 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 5 clr rw
r 5 + (to last p made) 5 - 5 - 5 clr rw
ch 6 - 6 - 6 + (to p on NEXT 4 leaved clover of previous round [David's]) 6 - 6
Now comes the trick!! Depending on the thickness of your yarn, you must
leave a length of thread equivalent to the width of the radius of the large
flower. Then make the small r for the centre of the next large flower and
continue on around doily (7 more times).
DON'T FORGET, you will have to join the last p on the 1st ch of the edge of
the large flower to the MIDDLE p of the last leaf of the trefoil. Sounds
complicated, but you'll know when you see what you've done.
Round 6: (More insertions by David - what a pain!)
Smaller flowers similar to the large flowers of the previous complex round.
r 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 clr; climb out with a mock picot (i.e. 7 picots
in all)
*ch 4 + (to next p)* Repeat 7 times around r
*ch 5 + to next tiny sp between chains by shuttle thread or lock stitch)* 7
times
*ch 6 + (as above) 3 + (to free p on 3rd leaf of trefoil in previous round
3 + (to next tiny space between chains) 3 + (to free p on NEXT trefoil of
previous round) 3 + (to next tiny space between chains) 6 + (to next tiny
space between chains) *1 - 2 - 2 - 1 + (to next tiny space between chains)*
(3 times). This completes the flower. Make 8.
Round 7: (David - one long chain around doily - what a relief!)
Using two shuttles because you're going to be doing Josephine Knots - don't
worry, they're a cinch! Here's how they're done. You're chaining away with
one shuttle, drop it and using the other shuttle wind thread around hand to
make a ring, but only use the FIRST half of a double stitch e.g. 12 or 8 of
them, close this tiny ring and then using the other shuttle carry on with
your chain.
Join yarn to middle p of trefoil to the RIGHT of the smaller of the large
flowers in previous round.
ch 8 + (to middle p of 5 ps on first free ch of large flower) *2 (Josephine
Knot of 12 hs - in future called JN) 2 - 2 JN 12 2 - JN 12 2 - JN 12 2
+ (to middle p of next ch on large flower)* Repeat * to * twice more
ch 8 + (to middle p of middle petal of trefoil in previous round) 6 - 6 +
(to middle of 3 ps on smaller of large flowers in previous round) *2 JN 8
hs 2 - 2 JN 8 2 + (to middle p of next ch)* Repeat * to * once
ch 6 - 6 + (to middle p of next trefoil in previous round)
Repeat all of this 7 more times around doily.
Final round (David - who used a much finer thread for this round for a
delicate edging)
If you use the same thicknees of thread as the rest of your doily you may
have to adjust the number of ds and picots.
Join yarn to p of the 6 - 6 ch to the LEFT of the large flower of previous
round.
ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p beyond first JN on large flower)
*ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p beyond next JN on large flower)* Repeat *
to * twice more
*ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p beyond next JN on large flower)* Repeat * to * once
*ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 -2 - 2 + (to p beyond next JN on large flower)* Repeat *
to * twice more
ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p or next 6 - 6 ch of previous round)
ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p beyond first JN over smaller of large
flowers in previous round)
ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p beyond next 2 JNs)
ch 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 + (to p on next 6 - 6 chain of previous round). Repeat all
this 7 more times around doily.
I do hope you can follow all the above without a picture. I have tried to
explain things as clearly as possible, but then I've remade the entrie doily
to check the pattern. Please let me know if anything needs further explanation.
