Atonic is a young boy who has run away from his homeland of Kahralain to see what is out there beyond the borders. With Chandria at his side, they venture out together, leaving behind a family worried for their safety and that of Kahralain itself.
Celandron: A criminal who was banished from Kahralain by the high priestess Kahla sought to reclaim Kahralain through a power so destructive, their ancestors fearfully abandoned its use and locked it away centuries ago. Of course, his banishment prevents him from returning to the village, unless he can use a wanderer of Kahralain to lift the curse.
High Priestess Kahla: a mage of Kahralain, and the solitary keeper of her people's special magics, she uses them for ceremonial purposes and for healing, including but not limited to the Changing. She is good-natured, but of course very strict in the ways of tradition, kind of like a nun in that aspect. She is very old, but wise.
Ralen: The first Kah of the wanderers, the ancestors of the people of Kahralain. As the first Kah, he possesses and is responsible to great magical powers now locked away and kept secret from the living members of his people.
Chandria's parents Weylan (a wolf) and Adenne (a parrot): Loving parents, they both care for Chandria when Atonic is not around to babysit. They're farmers, pretty much tied to the land, but they are darn good at it. Weylan sells his fruits in the marketplace, and Adenne often helps out with her culinary skills. Weylan's orchard has been one of Atonic's and Chandria's favorite places to play during their childhood.
Atonic's parents Tybalt (a raven) and Valesca (a snowy owl) live on an adjacent farm, where their fields produce assorted grains and nuts. Although they are quite practical by nature, they do have a modest plot of land set aside for growing grapes used for making wine. Naturally, the kids are kept away from there.
This story took place in the Park's tavern, and the paths
connecting it to Kahralain, the village beyond the mountains.
Through a portal locked away from all but the people of
Kahralain is the village, where for centuries, they have
peacefully settled. Over time, the portal had weakened beyond
the ability to seal. It is through this weakened portal that Atonic and Chandria were allowed to stumble through.
This story started in The Park, where Atonic repreatedly took
shelter in the tavern. There he learns that Chandria, a girl
from his homeland had run away to be with him. They return in
time for Chandria to receive her Changing, a ritual in which
she adopts her animal form. Shortly after, they leave again,
never to be seen again by the families they left behind to
find new adventures of their own.
His animal form is of a mouse, which has proven useful for eavesdropping and evading attackers. Additionally, he had learned some of the secret texts before he was banished, and that taste of magic served to empower him.
Her hair is the shade of platinum, brushed upwards and around her head into her ceremonial headdress. Her skin was paler than that of most people and it had many wrinkles, but they did little to weaken the sense of authority and the sparkle of life gleaming from her soft, pale blue eyes.
News of their escape spreads beyond the village, however, and
a dangerous man from the past threatens to use this as an
opportunity to steal the power Kahla has sworn to protect.
