The Digital World comes alive again near the Dark Pines, and a new threat looms within. With people from the Dark Pines and the Digital World working together, Laurel and Lopmon struggle to solve the problem that is causing digimon to destroy each other and their world before it all plunges into darkness.

Laurel Anna Kingsley is a girl of almost 17 who went to the Dark Pines to answer a mystery and find her destiny. Upon reaching the Dark Pines, she learns that she is the tamer of Lopmon.
Despite turning 17 in a month, Laurel is rather short for her age. Her outfit is fairly light, mostly in muted blues and purples, and she carries a handbag on which rests her D-Pendant, a digivice she got with Lopmon. She likes wearing her black hair in a braid, but has lately preferred to leave it alone and let it fall to her back, not past her shoulderblades. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost appearing black at times.

Lopmon is a Rookie level data beast digimon with brown fur and long floppy ears that make it look like a chocolate bunny. Lopmon's attacks are Blazing Ice and Tiny Twister, and the powers of digivolution allow her to take on the forms of Turuiemon and Antylamon, more powerful digimon with their own special attacks. Those abilities were quickly needed as Lopmon tries to help Laurel piece together the puzzle that is quickly ripping the Digital World apart.

The Black Spirits are the root cause of the breakown of the Digital World. As inhabitants of a world of darkness, they enter the Digital World through a interspatial rift and quickly set out to make the Digital World their own, destroying everything to make room for its darkness. Their powers, including the power to possess weak digimon and confuse others with illusion serve this purpose alone.

The story takes place in the Dark Pines initially, or anywhere else the characters may go, as this story is open to those who wish to participate. So far, they have travelled through a portal linking the Dark Pines to the Digital World, visited locations within like Digitomemon's cafe, The Digital Emperess Reina's castle, the BIOS Abbey, and even some of the other worlds that have invaded since the Digital World's barriers began breaking down.

The characters were relatively quickly prepared to provide a setting and direction for some others in the room that happened to have characters based on this theme as well. The entrance of Lopmon and then Laurel was meant to provide a plot for the others, with distractions along the way, of course.
