| The grate was blackleaded every week without fail, all the cooking was done here, on the gales , which were usally made of brass, hung the kettle and pots and pans used for cooking....... ln the chemists were row upon row of coloured bottles , and all the pills were made by hand...... |

| The aroma of leather filled the air . the man at his last, was busy putting soles and heels upon the shoes he was repairing........ The pithead was a forboding place , where many an accident had taken place.....But where the miners came each day to earn a crust.......No fancy jobs around here....... |

| This was used to get water out of the wet clothes , it was efficent but cumbersome , and if your fingers got in the way of the rollers , you had flat sore fingers for days........ The corner shop......here, you could buy all that you needed, no superstore to wander around , but there was a freindly attmosphere , and the gaffer always ready to tell you the latest gossip......because every-one knew evry-one........... A old pennies worth of sweets wrapped in a paper cone , was the highlight of a childs day... |
