"We have this security. It's actually funny because we have these little things in the trees that have an alarm and if you walk by they say, "Don't enter the yard."

~Taylor, "The Original Boy Band: Hanson", by Jodi Bryson, Teen Magazine, June 2000

Note to self: Do not stalk Hanson. ;o)

Teen: You're a little touchy on the girl subject, Taylor.

Taylor: Well, you know, people are always asking, "Who's your girlfriend?" or "Do you have one?" and I'm like, "Well, you know what? If I did have one, I wouldn't tell you who she was."

"It's a very bad habit. No matter what I do, I always have to have something in my hands, which I can play with. It's a weird habit, but I've had it ever since I was very little", says Taylor.

"The Pop/Rock Genre has got lost somewhere in the middle. You'll get boybands, R'n'B bands, rap and nu metal. I think people are going to start coming back to good songs and great vocals. Bands like Coldplay and Travis are the guts - you can imagine 25 years from now that their songs will be recorded by other artists. It's got to come down to a real passion for the music - there's a realness, an authenticity to it. You can't fake passion."

Teen: How often do you change your underwear?

Taylor: That is where we're going to have to draw the line!

The trio co-wrote a potential title track called "Underneath," with Sweet earlier this year, and have since composed another song with him called "I Almost Care," a number Taylor describes as possessing, "a kind of a cynical, almost sick way of looking at things from the guy's perspective."

Hanson is determined to shed its baby band image, with This Time Around -- a critical surprise to say the least -- being merely the beginning of that process. "The last record was a great step for the industry to go, 'OK They made a second record and it wasn't crappy,'" says Taylor. "But for me, this record is the final statement. I'm totally psyched. As an artist that's doing music, I'm more pumped about what we are doing now then anything we have ever done."

"A live record is very different from a studio record. On a studio record, you're recording a song for the first time. You have two or three months to scrutinize it and really make it right. A live record is really just truly a capturing of a moment. You're capturing the response of you and the fans."

amyhansn1:Taylor, do you ever read poetry and if so who is your favorite poet?

"I love to play music. I just, I love to get out and play, I love to just get to rock, man. And so when that happens, when you get to write a song you feel good about and play music you feel good about, it's just sort of icing on the cake that there's people that actually like it."

"The fact that we have fans, we can play and enjoy it and do something we love as a job and a passion all at the same time is a huge priveledge."

I like dreamin' coz dreamin can make you mine I like dreamin' closing my eyes, and feelin fine When the lights go down I'm holdin you so tight Gotcha in my arms and it's paradise 'Til the morning light.

I see us on the shore beneath the bright sunshine We've walked along St. Thomas beach a million times Hand in hand, two bare foot lovers, kissin in the sand, Side by side, the tide rolls in I'm touching you, you're touching me If only it could be.

I like dreamin' coz dreamin can make you mine I like dreamin' closing my eyes, and feelin fine When the lights go down I'm holdin you so tight Gotcha in my arms and it's paradise 'Til the morning light.

Through each dream, how our love has grown I see us with our children, and our happy home Little smiles, so warm and tender, lookin up at us Blessed by love, the world we share Then I wake, I reach for you And you're just not there.

I like dreamin' coz dreamin can make you mine I like holdin you close, touchin your skin Even if it's in my mind Sweet dream baby I love you Mmmm my sweet dream baby don't keep me waiting all my life I need you Sweet dream baby I love you Oooh sweet dream baby you're in my dreams every night Mmmm sweet dream baby I like feelin again Mmmm sweet dream baby don't keep my waiting all my life I need you...

"People go, 'How do you write a song?' and it's always interesting to figure out how to say that. It happens in so many ways. Sometime one person will start it and bring an idea together. Sometimes you'll be jamming together. Lyrics can inspire a song, a melody can inspire a song. But all those things put together kind of balance each other out and I think that keeps that excitement every time you write a new one because you don't know or how it will come about."

"The first music that we heard, that we got into, was the late 50s then into the 60s and 70s. Which of course was before any of us were born, so it's way before any of our time. It kind of established a respect for great music and rock music. You know, rock and roll."

DJ: How long have you been playing piano?

Tay: We all took classical piano....but it's mainly Ike and I....but I've been the keyboardist for the band for about 5 years.

DJ: I'm actually a classically trained pianist, and if you ever get down here to Nashville, we can like, jam on Heart and Soul.

Tay :Well, I'm sure you'll show me up.

"The way you look, the way you laugh, the way you love with all you have

.... The way you move when you walk by All you gotta do is smile at me and down I go

I love your attitude... your every thought Your smile, your lips....

Your dance, your drive, you make me feel alive

The way you talk, the way you tease- by now I think you see There ain't nothin' 'bout you That don't do something for me."

andromeda:Hi Hanson! I saw you in Vancouver on the first and you were awesome!!! Hope you enjoyed the city too. Could you please explain about the glassy surface verse from "A Song to Sing"? Taylor Hanson : Well, the question is, andromeda, what explanation do you want? Taylor Hanson : That poem was a verse that was cut out of the last verse on the album...it means a lot of things... Taylor Hanson : I think an explanation might be too long for a chat! Nick Chat August 2000

Throughout the album, Taylor Hanson's MiJack-influenced singing is far too fierce and church-based to ever be reasonably called bubblegum.

Taylor, the group's 15-year-old lead singer, says he's flattered whenever critics and fans compare his voice to that of the young Michael Jackson, but he adds that the comparison only goes so far.

"It's a huge compliment when people compare you like that, because the Jackson 5 were such a musical landmark. People like to compare us because we're young and we're brothers, but I would say there's definitely a big difference between what they did and what we do."

One crucial difference is that while the Jackson 5 sang and danced in front of adult back-up musicians, Hanson is a self-contained rock 'n' roll band. Ike plays guitar, Taylor plays keyboards and Zac plays drums.

DJ: SO where are you guys hangin' today?

Tay: New York

DJ:What are you preparing to do?

Tay: We just came straight from Australia to do some contest stuff.

DJ: SO are you guys jet lagged, or what?

Tay:We're a little jet lagged, yeah..but you get into this pattern, and you just sort of go with the flow, and you sort of get used to being tired.

DJ: What do you do for fun? I mean, I know that the music is fun and you guys have been doing it, but what else do you do?

Tay:We do everything that everybody else does. Whenever we're home, we go see our friends, go to the movies, everything that everbody does.

DJ:Is it difficult for you guys to do stuff like that?Go to the movies without being mobbed and stuff like that?

Tay: Sometimes,it's a pain, and people ask for our autograph or whatever and that whole thing, but we just do it anyway because we could just never do stuff. SO you just go with it..And it's not a big deal.
