TAY A DAY: March 2001

Thursday, March 1, 2001

Well, this feeling that your feeling Is something I know you've felt before When I see you, I want to hold you 'Til the end of time, then a little bit more

And I, I'm not going to let it go You've got to let your feelings show So, smile Gimme all your heart We'll never be apart I'll never leave you lonely If you'll just smile Tell me that you care 'Cause I'll always be there Never leave you hurt If you'll just smile Yeah Well, this feelin' I've been feelin' Well, I can feel it right now, from my head to the floor When I see you, I wanna love you 'Til the end of time, then a little bit more

And I, I'm not going to let it go You've got to let your feelings show So, smile Gimme all your heart We'll never be apart I'll never leave you lonely If you'll just smile Tell me that you care 'Cause I'll always be there Never leave you hurt

If my joy got broken in two If anyone can heal me I said, baby, it's you Oh, won't you come and hold my hand 'Cause this world has taken me as far as it can Without your smile...

TZ : Do you work out on a regular basis?

Taylor: If we weren't doing what we are doing, we would be doing more outdoor things. But since we're on the road so much the only REAL workout we get is being on stage jumping around. And ya know that's probably it.

"There was some divine reason for us to get that music. It wasn't like our parents were hippies. They had the records, and we picked them up. Our parents were both musical, but really we were just driven. There was some innate musicality between the three of us."

"Maybe it was the fantasy aspect. I don't really know, except when he came in, it was as if the rest of the world, the real world, no longer existed. It was as if, for a few hours, all my troubles, all my fears, all my disappointments just dissolved away. Leaving me completely free to live out a dream."

~from "Butterfly", by Kathryn Harvey

Yet another literary quote....this book has nothing at all to do with Hanson, but yet, the words just seem to be so....Taylor-esque....don't you agree? ;-) Thanks Dawn!

"He was standing by the door, smiling. He had come in soundlessly. A beautiful young man with a finely muscled body and blond hair... He was perfection."

DJ: But I wanna know Taylor, how you keep this from going to your head because I'm sure the fan mail comes in every day and if I was in your spot Taylor, I'd have like a solid gold car, I would have like a cocaine problem, I would blow like a million dollars a day, just in bad drugs.

Taylor: Yeah, well that would kinda put a damper on the whole thing. And you know, we tried that, but it's kinda boring so we decided to go the other way.

DJ: Is that right? In your ripe old age?

Taylor: Yeah, you know, solid cars do not drive very fast.

"I think you always want to have success commmercially, because you want to have fans out there and that of course makes it possible, because you can tour and all those things...but also the respect of critics and people acknowledging the band, which really they have from beginning, is definitely very important too."

~Taylor in Urban Tulsa, June 29, 2000

"It's very cool for people who are constantly critiquing albums and making assessments of album after album to go 'Yeah, this is a really great record' or just to make a compliment about it or give it respect. And, we've gotten a huge amount of that on this record and that is definitely very cool just as a musician and as a person just doing their thing."

~Taylor, Urban Tulsa, June 29, 2000

"For the song "In the City", Taylor Hanson became unusually daring, and chose to run back and forth across the stage greeting fans, scale a massive speaker, and then climb up the side of the balcony. As fans rushed to the end of the balcony, Taylor had to reach solid ground quickly to avoid plummeting to the stage. A sign of a true entertainer is how far they go to put on a show for the audience."

"Of the brothers, Taylor is still clearly the heartthrob of the group, and working a crowd into a frenzy seemed to be his specialty on Saturday night. When he wasn't coming out from behind his instrument to run back and forth across the stage, his black tank top alone seemed to be working its magic."

"I'm in the middle
the middle of life
I'm a boy and I'm a man
I'm eighteen and I LIKE IT
Yes I like it
Oh I like it
Love it
Like it
Love it
Eighteen!
Eighteen!
Eighteen!
Eighteen and I LIKE IT"

Taylor: What a wild concept for somebody to take, like an African choir, and those, all those sounds, um, that he incorporated and, and put it together with Paul Simon songwriting.

Isaac: One of my favorite songs on that particular record is, well, "diamonds on the soles of her shoes".

Taylor & Isaac: (sing) "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes."

"It really is a problem when Taylor is the last one off the bus, because it makes it seem like they're working up to something, like there's supposed to be some sort of suspense involved in this whole process of getting Hanson from point A to point B. Of course, that's entirely ridiculous, but that's what it seems like to the crowd, especially when they're waiting for the Golden Boy, and only the Golden Boy.

So he got off the bus.

Several visual things of note:

It's a stretch to even really call him blond anymore. Underneath, his hair is downright dark, almost darker than Isaac's. Granted, it does have these rather vivid, pale streaks near the top that are indeed as dreamy as Teen Beat and the New York Times make them out to be.

He was carrying the most perfect, exceedingly cool, corduroy patchwork messenger bag. I want one. Really. Its awesomeness is unparalleled in the universe of messenger bags. This also prompted conversations over what, exactly, Taylor Hanson carries in that neato bag. We're sure it's interesting, just because he's Taylor Hanson, and even if it only contains bubblegum wrappers and a spare set of keys, they're his bubblegum wrappers."

"It's phenomenal! The things people send you in the mail...fans from South America send scrolls that say "I love you" over and over across the page. They're about six inches thick, and at the end it says how many "I love yous" are written on it. It blows me away that people devote so much time to make something like that for you."

Q: Whats your favorite instrument to play now that you play the piano, drums, guitar, and more?

Tay: Well there are certain things that are really great for certain things. Piano is probably always going to be the instrument I favor because it is so versatile. But there is nothing like sitting at the drums, and there are a lot of things you can do on guitar that you can't do on keyboards.

"Hanson delivered the goods. And as the show closed and squadrons of starry-eyed attendees went home, probably the only person who felt jilted was the one girl in the lower balcony who kept calling for Taylor to take off his shirt.

Oh well. Maybe next time around."

Taylor's Eyes: The only one of the three Hansons to have blue eyes, and man, it was Tay's turn to hit the Genetics Jackpot on this one. Beautiful? Let's try magnificent. As wonderous and vast as the ocean, the sky. People write songs, books, operas, poems about eyes like that.

Taylor's Mouth: The mouth. I mean, it's only the sexiest thing in this galaxy. When the boy talks, do you ever find yourself more entranced by the its shape and the nuance of its movement than the words that happen to be coming out of it?

Q:ÜTaylor, you sound like a classically trained musician. ÜHow many years of piano did you take and did you like it?

Ü Tay: ÜA seven year old kid will never love the idea of taking piano lessons right off the bat. I definitely didn't always like it. I love it, I love to play, and I wish I would have kept up even more of my classical training. I took lessons for about seven years. If you are starting, remember that by the time you start to get good at it, there is nothing like it. So stick it out !

"I think I noticed his eyes immediately after that. I've complained a lot in the past about the Universal Set of Fanfiction Adjectives Devoted Exclusively to the Description of Taylor Hanson's eyes, and I take back every word of it. I know now why every fourteen-year-old in the world uses words like "glittering" and "crystalline". It's because every one of those words holds impossible amounts of truth. They're the palest, shimmering blue, and when he talks to you, they focus with a gentle, unwavering curiosity. There's nothing even remotely intimidating about it."
