Pandora's Box
Pandora's Box

Isaac blinked and looked at the girl.
“What was that again?”
“Pandora, my name is, Pandora,” She said, rolling her dark gray eyes.
“Wow, that’s an interesting name…” Isaac said.
“I know, I get the box jokes all the time.”
“And that you’re nothing but trouble, I bet.”
“Those too.”
“Any truth to it? The trouble thing?”
“Of course not.”

Pandora tapped on Isaac’s window impatiently.

“Hurry it up, Hanson!” She hissed. Isaac glared at her, and threw something else in his bag. He zipped it up, and put one leg out the window.

“Move over, I need space.” Pandora stepped over a few steps. Isaac climbed out of his window and they ran to Pandora’s car. They drove, talking and laughing for a while. Then Pandora stopped outside of another house and two girls jumped in.

“What took you so long!” One, who had an interesting looking tattoo on her exposed cleavage, exclaimed.

“He was slow and pokey,” Pandora laughed, pointing to Isaac. He gave Pandora a “what the fuck?” look.

“Who are they?” He asked, leaning over.

“Just some friends, chill out man.”

An hour later, they had picked up three more people. Isaac listened to the chatter of the others around him. He began to wonder why he’d come along in the first place. He hoped they weren’t going to rob a liquor store. Eventually, they reached their destination, a little house packed with people, loud music, and lots of drugs. Isaac looked with worry at the people around him puffing on their joints. He saw a few girls give him inviting glances.

“Pandora, did you know what this party would be like?” Isaac asked.

“Of course I did, silly!” She giggled.

“Pandora, you know I don’t do drugs.”

“There’s a first time for everything,” She gushed. Isaac shook his head. He hung around outside for a while, looking for someone half sober to talk to. There didn’t seem to be anyone. He figured he should stay to drive Pandora and her friends home.

“Isaac, I swear, I’m sorry, okay?” Pandora stood on his front porch. Isaac looked at her. He opened the door and let her in. Pandora handed him a little white box.

“I brought these for you.” Isaac looked in the box. It was brownies. He gave Pandora a half smile.

“Thanks.”

“Sure,” She said, grinning. They talked a while. The air seemed cold and still. Pandora finally left, mumbling something about homework. Isaac sat the box of brownies on the table and looked at it. He just didn’t trust her. Isaac picked up a brownie and broke it in half. It looked fine to him. He broke up another one. Normal. He shrugged, and shut the lid. On second thought, he opened it and broke one more open. A small bag of white powder fell out. Isaac knew in a second what it was. Isaac’s heart jumped to his throat. He shoved the box of brownies into a bag and jumped into his car. He drove quickly to the river and threw the bag as hard as he could. That was the last of Pandora Isaac ever saw.
