Course Description

Manicure Specialty I is a two-year course designed to prepare students for a career in the manicure /nail field.  Course content includes instruction in manicure, pedicures, artificial nail application, and related theory coving these areas,  In addition, students are instructed in health and safety practices.  Students must complete 600 clock hours in a two-year period.

In Manicure Specialty II, students receive advance training that leads to the Texas Cosmetology Commission Manicure Technician license.  Students will receive eight college credits at Lamar State College, Port Arthur for successful completion of the course.  Students must pass the TAAS and the TASP to receive college credit.  Students are encourage to join Skills USA/VICA in order to participate more fully in leadership roles and learn more about increase  the level of professionalism.

Student Qualifications

Manicure Specialty I

Student must be eligible to take the TAAS and TASP

Student must have strong desire to work in the manicure field

Student must be willing to stay after school hours.

Student must be willing to learn

Student must be well self-motivated

Manicure Specialty II

Student must  successfully complete Manicure Specialty I

Student must have the recommendation of the instructor

Class Requirements

Manicure Specialty I, II

Student must attend class each day.

Student must purchase a nail kit.

Student maintain a notebook through-out the year.

Student must be willing to work on clients one (1) day a week.

Student must be willing to conform to health standards.

Student must be willing to intern/job shadow second semester.
