Course Description

Computer Maintenance I (A+ Certification) is a pre-employment laboratory course with job specific training for entry level employment in the computer career field.  Course content includes basic electricity / electronics theory, computer systems, data communications, safety, digital electronics, installations, inspection, adjustments, repair and maintenance, entrepreneurship, leadership, and career opportunities.  An instructor from the Lamar Institute of Technology teaches this course as part of a co-enrollment agreement that provides students with sixteen college credits for successful completion of the two-year course.  A certification test is given in May.

Computer Maintenance II (Networking) will focus on network installation.  Certification testing will be in May.

Students are encouraged to join SKILLS USA/ VICA and to compete in the contests.

Student Qualifications

Computer Maintenance I / II Student should have basic knowledge of computers. Student must be able to work with others and follow directions. Student should be in Algebra II or Pre-Calculus. Student must have passed the TAAS test and be eligible to pass the TASP. Students who meet these standards may be dually enrolled at LIT

Class Requirements

Computer Maintenance I / II Course meets for two hours per day

Student must attend class each day.

Student must be self-disciplined and follow directions.

Student must be willing to job shadow / intern spring semester of second year.
