Orr, James H.
Born 05/19/1890 - Died 04/07/15,
City: , County: COLUMBIANA, Volume: 1617, Certificate #: 20432, Code: 15.The informant was a James Orr. Could James had a son named James in 1890at age 60 and be alive in 1915 to be an informant? That's not unlikely, but what about his wife? She would have been pretty old to have a baby in1890??

Text taken from page 1441 of:
Beers, J. H. and Co., Commemorative Biographical Record of WashingtonCounty, Pennsylvania (Chicago: J. H. Beers & Co., 1893).
An unusual multiple family inter-relationship occurred in the family of
John Grant with two sons and one daughter of the Grants marrying three
members of the Carr family, while two other daughters of John Grantmarried
two members of the Orr family.
"The birthplace of Elizabeth Casner Grant is given in the U.S. 1850 Census
of Sugar Creek Twp., Stark Co., Ohio as PA. This agrees with a note in
Crumrine's History, supra, p. 692, Note 2, that Peter Castner came fromthe
vicinity of Philadelphia and settled near the town of LaTrobe in 1775;that
prior to 1790, he became a resident of Fallowfield Twp., and in 1794, he
obtained a patent for the Walnut Bottom tract of 282 acres. The named is spelled "Castner" in John P. Clark's "The Donora
Story," printed as part of the Donora, PA., Golden Jubilee souvenirbooklet
of 1951. Mr. Clark comments "........ when Peter Castner died the title
passed to his two sons John and Michael...." It may have been Michael
Castner's sister, Elizabeth, wife of John Grant (5th gen), who gave the
name of Michael to her youngest son, Michael Grant (6th gen)."
Nancy Walker lists her birth as 11/23/1868
Hi Steve,
I'm trying to reply to you intermittently as I try to get all of theyardwork done. I will be going to EL on June 7 and staying about 2weeks. My mother will be undergoing radiation therapy for cancer and soI am going out to lend a hand, etc. I hope all goes well. My son (age22) will stay here and take care of the dogs and cat, but I have manythings that must be done before I leave. I think I told you I teachpsychology at a college, and we just finished the semester, so obviouslyI was very busy with that and let the house and yard chores go.
Both my parents were born in EL and so were my brother and I. MyGrandfather G. Willard Chambers owned a clothing store in EL which hisgrandfather had started. My father owned a laundry and dry cleaningbusiness which his father had started. I was born in 1944, and my brotherBob was born in
1948. He has a doctorate in Counseling psychology and is Director ofSocial Services at EL City Hospital. He also teaches part-time for KentState Univ. He is married to Karen and they have a son Josh. I havebeen married twice. I lived in Hawaii for 4 years because I followed mythen boyfriend over there and we got married. I had already finished myBA from Kent State U. and so I earned my MA there at U. of Hawaii. Wecame back to Cape Cod, got our careers established and had a son DanaJohngren. We then promptly split up. We were married for 10 years. Istarted teaching at Cape Cod Community College in 1971 and have beenthere ever since (27 years). After my son was born I finished mydoctorate at Boston Univ. A few years ago, I made the mistake ofmarrying one of my former students, but that was short-lived. I enjoyteaching and I love all the time off. I am a skier and have a smallplace in New Hampshire. So between the beaches of Cape Cod and themountains of NH, I feel that I have everything I need. I find EL to be avery depressing place and knew as a child that I would leave. I like totravel and have been to Scotland twice, including the Isle of Skye.
I am interested in many other lines of my family and am active in ClanMoffat (my father's side) and other various Scottish activities. I am amember of Clan MacKinnon ( I even have a kilt!), but it doesn't do muchof anything.
Well back to the McKinnons. I know very little about Joseph.Everyone seems to focus on Daniel. Notes I have from one source say thatJoseph settled in Abbottstown, PA where he followed the business oftanning for 3 years and then to Washington, PA, and then to EL. Hesupposedly served in the Revolution but I could not find any pensionrecords from the National Archives. According to my records, MargaretDillow was born in Abbottstown, PA Sept 1757 and died 27 March 1830 inEL. I got some of this from a local history of Columbiana Co, OH.
Abbotstown is near Gettysburg and I haven't checked this out. Anythingyou can tell me about Joseph and Margaret Dillow would be greatlyappreciated. I believe I have exhausted most of the resources in EL. Imight look up Margaret's obituary while I'm there.
The only other thing I might ask is if you have any information onthe MacKinnons back in Scotland. Do you have a copy of Memoirs of ClanFingon by Donald MacKinnon 1899? It tells about the early days inScotland. It's a little paperback and is available from the Clan. Letme know if you want info on this. There is some interesting stuff therewhich may be connected with the story of Lachlan. In a nutshell the 28thCheif Lachlan Mor had one son John of Misinish who married Anne. Theyhad 3 sons John (d.1759 Mull), Ranald and Donald. Some have thought thatRev. Daniel is identical to Donald. Some of these people settled in NovaScotia. I do know the name of the main MacKinnon
researcher in NS so I think I'll contact her. This is interesting!Nancy
