I wanted to post something of our beliefs, so that anyone investigating the Church at the River's Edge would know us. Here is something I wrote not long ago in a discussion forum at CARM.org
First let me... define the word of faith by what we believe:
We believe that all doctrine is defined by scripture alone. We believe that any interpretation drawn apart from scripture might be worth a discussion, but not worth division.
We believe that God is as He revealed Himself. That Jesus is the Word made flesh, and that He bears witness to God's intention to do exactly as He has said.
We believe that Christians are called, therefore, to believe God, and obey His commandments.
We also believe that our own faith is expressed both by what we say and what we do, and that we shall be judged, as it is written, by every idle word we speak. We are therefore careful in what we say.
So what do we want? We want a church that is so in love with the Word her Groom, that the Word does not depart from her mouth day and night but that she meditates on it at all times, in season and out of season.
And we want to be a part of what brings this end to the church, as she is to be purified by the washing of the Word.
So what does health and wealth have to do with anything, and why are cadillacs confused with [the controversy over our faith]? Because both health and wealth are mentioned in the scriptures, and OT wealth is defined in camels and gold. Therefore the discussion has been enjoined around what scripture actually says concerning health and wealth, and where scriptures encounter the traditions of man, the same conflicts exist that existed between Jesus and the orthodox of His day.
Let the dialog begin.
We're not afraid here, to address spiritual conflict with spiritual truth. The tension always lies in the diversity of opinion. Does the church obey the Lord who bought Her? Or does she perpetuate the madness that drove us to disobey. We see no alternative to obedience. When He commanded that we love one another as He loved us, we see no way out. The World must know that we are His disciples. Today is the day to do what He said.
