Gaither game moved to UT
TAMPA - Thursday's
scheduled boys' region soccer game between Gaither and Sarasota Riverview has
been moved to Pepin/Rood Stadium at the originally scheduled time of 7:30 p.m.,
Gaither athletic director Jim Pullin said.
The game originally was
scheduled to be played at Gaither, but the school's field was vandalized over
the weekend and repairs couldn't be made in time to allow use of the facility.
Pullin said the deal for use of Pepin/Rood was finalized with the University of
Tampa on Tuesday. The cost of using the facility was paid for by New York
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, county athletic director Vernon Korhn said.
Meanwhile, no suspects have
been named and investigators are still working on the case. Pullin said
Hillsborough County Schools security was on the scene taking pictures of the
damage and searching for clues the past two days.
Also, Gaither baseball
coach Frank Permuy will retire former Cowboys' player Chad Zerbe's uniform
number at a ceremony before Saturday's preseason classic, scheduled to begin
around 1 p.m.
Zerbe, a left-handed
pitcher, graduated from Gaither in 1990 and made his major-league debut with
the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 12 of last year.
