Area players make all-state

TAMPA - Jesuit sweeper Jeremy Poklemba headlines the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-State Soccer Teams as State Player of the Year.

Poklemba, who was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, solidified the Tigers defense for four years and was a member of three consecutive state championship teams. During Poklemba's career, Jesuit was 95-9-6 with him in the lineup and 4-9-6 without him.

Bloomingdale sweeper Casey Stump, who signed to play at South Florida, was named Class 6A Player of the Year for the state runner-up Bulls.

Jesuit's Bob Bauman was named Class 4A Coach of the Year; Countryside's Ron Marn is 5A Coach of the Year; and St. Pete Catholic's Brad Smith is 3A Coach of the Year. Hialeah American's Jim Willenborg, who led the Patriots to their first 6A state title, was named State Coach of the Year.

Local players named All-State are: Bloomingdale's Stump, Bobby Anderson, Chaz Richard and Paul Sanders; Gaither's Jeff Thwaites and Ben Cowherd; Countryside's Damen Jackson, Keith Tickner and Terence Marn; Jesuit's Poklemba, Shea Helmle, Rob Daly, Clay Spriet, Jody Keller, Mike Signoracci, Pat Svetitz and Chris Harkness; Berkeley Prep's Jens Nystroem, Brice Strickland, Gerard Palacios, Jody Keeling, and Dean Arnaoutakis; and St. Pete Catholic's Bryan Mulnix.
