Terps favorites to win District 4

Oct. 27, 1999

TAMPA -- Due to this year’s fall soccer realignment, perennial champion Lakeland Christian is no longer in Hillsborough’s district. That means someone else has a shot at the District 4 title.

Host Tampa Prep (16-3) is the favorite. The Terrapins got a huge 3-2 win over No.1-ranked Bradenton St. Stephens on Oct. 15, and have a 9-0 district record.

Max Citrin, Darryl Ogle, and David Hughes have combined for 62 goals and goalie Danny Wendlek (1.0 gaa) has eight shutouts.

Second-seeded Seminole Presbyterian (13-3) also has a chance with the one-two scoring punch of Drew Mallory and David Bresnahan.

In Wednesday’s action, Tampa Baptist knocked off Bayshore Christian 3-1 to set up today’s 4:30 meeting against Seminole Presbyterian. Canterbury also topped Lakeside Christian 3-2 in double overtime and will face the Terrapins at 7.

The winners of today’s semifinals play in the finals at Tampa Prep on Friday at 7. Both semifinalists advance to regional play.
