Durant pulls upset, hands Bulls rare shutout

DURANT - It was difficult for Durant coach David Peacock to keep the emotions of his team in check.Good thing the weather was cool because after Durant stunned Bloomingdale 2-0, all the Cougars wanted to do was head for the warmth of the car ride home.
``This is only round two,'' said Peacock, whose team lost to Bloomingdale 4-0 in last week's King Tournament. ``We have to get back in line and line it back up with them in January.''
But for now, Durant (4-1, 1-0) will savor one of the biggest wins in school history as the Cougars sit atop 4A-District 7.
Bloomingdale looked flat, not displaying the same energy level showed in capturing the King Tournament championship last week.
``I was extremely disappointed in the effort,'' Bloomingdale coach Dave Tennian said. ``We haven't had a practice since I don't know when so I hope that it's just us being rusty.''
Jamin Hollingsworth and Josh Cline each scored a goal and an assist for the Cougars and keeper Blake Dickenson made some key saves as the Bulls were shut out for only the third time in the past three years.
The girls' game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Each team scored in the first two minutes but the defenses took over for the rest of the game.
The game was delayed 15 minutes after Durant's Pam Mattheus landed awkwardly and was carried off with a knee injury. She is expected to miss at least Friday's game against Gaither.
