Super Y League formed

On July 14, the finishing touches were put on a plan to unite 11 of the strongest youth soccer clubs in the USYSA's Southeastern region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas) into a new "Super Y League."

The clubs plan to get together five or six times a year for tournaments providing the highest level of competion. The clubs must all bring five teams (boys under-l4 through under-19) to each event. To round out the 12-team field for a given tournament bracket, the League will extend an invitation to some at-large club with a competitive record.

The Clearwater Chargers are the only club from Florida in the Super Y League.

The first tournament will be in Atlanta on Aug 21-23, followed by a tourney in Houston over Labor Day weekend.  There is also an Oct. 16-18 tourney in Memphis in the works.
