Temple B'nai Israel Marks 97th Year with Bat Mitzvah of Four Adult Women

By Larry Berkowitz

The Sanctuary of TBI resounded with the joyous laughter and applause of a full house on Saturday morning, May 8th. It was a typical Shabbat service for our temple, but on this day four adult women became Bat Mitzvah. Jan Weisbrot from Mt. Laurel, Helene Schwartz from Burlington, Joyce Glassman from Willingboro and Caroline Feinberg from Cherry Hill, each recited the blessings and read for the Torah in Hebrew. Rabbi Jordi Gendra and Cantor Manel Frau led the service.

Irv Horwitz, Secretary of the Congregation, recited the blessings for wine and bread, before proud family and friends enjoyed a sumptuous lunch in the large hall adjacent to the sanctuary. It was truly a memorable event for this small historic warm older community, which is preserving its heritage.

New younger members from surrounding areas have recently joined and become active in TBI.
