I have kinda gone full circle with what to do for my throttle body. At first I was gonna just adapt my existing Porsche throttle body, then I picked up a throttle body from a 3.1 Lumina. I abandoned this one as the butterfly was smaller than the 59mm diameter of the butterfly on my Porsche throttle body. I then picked up a throttle body from a 5.0l Mustang. This had the exact same butterfly, however the mounting holes did not match up the CIS airbox. I was gonna make an adapter plate, but yesterday I decided I was going to modify my existing CIS throttle body.
I needed to add the TPS to it, so here is what I did.
Here is a picture of the CIS throttle body on my 3.0L engine.

Here is a picture of the capped end where I will fit the TPS sensor.

The TPS sensor came from the Mustang throttle body. Note the TPS sensors come in clockwise and counter clockwise rotation. The Mustang TPS had the correct rotation to fit on this side on the Porsche throttle body.

The throttle body was taken apart. The butterfly was removed, and the shaft that it attaches to was also removed. A hole was drilled at the end of the shaft and a thread was tapped into it. Here is what is looks like with the tapped hole in the shaft.

An adapter was fabricated from aluminum that would screw into this hole.

Here are the pieces now assembled.

A bracket that the TPS sensor would connect to was also made from aluminum. Two hole were drilled and threads were tapped into the bracket. The bracket was pressed onto the throttle body.

The Porsche throttle body has two fittings one above and one below the butterfly. I will use and external idle air bypass solenoid mounted on these fittings for my cold engine idle up. |
