HISTORY:
Founded in 1946 in Great Britain by the parents of British girls who married American and Canadian servicemen during WWII and who left their homes by the tens of thousands to join their husbands in North America. Through the association planes were chartered to enable the parents, daughters and their families to visit each other. In 1963 plans were set in motion for the formation of a North American division. At the beginning only those British born persons married to US or Canadian servicemen and ex-servicemen, their spouses and children were eligible for full membership.
MEMBERSHIP TODAY:
Eligibility requirements are any one of British birth, their spouses and descendants, 18 years of age or older (male or female).
We are organized into Areas (state designated) and Branch (local) clubs. Each meets several times a year. Members enjoy getting together to discuss TBPA business, social fellowship to organize activities that celebrate our British heritage i.e. cricket matches, Guy Fawkes Bonfire, dart & soccer matches, and just to have a "cuppa" together as well as fundraising for various charities.
The TOGETHER AGAIN magazine published 6 times a year and offered to members contains articles and items of interest to members along with British recipes, knitting patterns, British news & history, Bed and Breakfast recommendations, etc.
We have a BIENNUAL CONVENTION at various sites across the U.S. The site for the 2002 Convention is on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA.
OUR PURPOSE AND AIMS:
To provide fellowship to our members and to foster Anglo-American relationships and continue TBPA as a permanent link with our British heritage.
TBPA is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian origanizatin.
