The Source
Why do I do this? I noticed during the very first episode of "Buffy" that this show was something special. I loved the movie, & expected the show to be similar. Ya know, nothing too impressive, just hip & entertaining. What I got was this shock of brilliant writing, unexpected & unconventional story twists, & dialogue funny & cool beyond all measure. I instantly knew it was going to be something addictive to me. "Buffy", & now "Angel", have given more than just hours of entertainment, & this website is my way of giving something back to the show- Joss & co.- by helping fans enjoy the show when it's not airing. I provide episode summaries so that no one will be clueless in they miss an episode, up to date news on the shows, cast information, Joss information, & a whole lot more- like the creative tribute sections.
I had been a die-hard "Buffy" for almost 2 years before I even got the Internet in my home. I had this friend who was really into the show too who would go online & get Buffy News & spoilers & such. Whenever I would talk to her I would call her my Buffy Source- as in she was my inside contact on the current "Buffy" happenings. & that's how I got the name.
I started The Buffy Source in February of 1999. I had just gotten online at my home for the first time. I had a computer that was top of the line- in 1992. It could barely download pictures, so I turned that setting off. Everything was straight text. I loved all the fan sites I found on "Buffy". I had many bookmarked in categories, with star ratings. But, I wasn't so impressed with the official "Buffy" site. I had no pictures, let alone flash, & buffy.com seemed so lame. So I said to myself, "I could do better than the official site". & so I signed up for a free webspace.
I've always had a child-like fear of computers. You wouldn't know it looking at this webpage. I didn't want to touch the codes of the html of my web pages, for a while I just used the templates. But I grew tired of the same old templates & started to slowly fool around with the html. Months went by, as the months went by I learned more html. I looked up new html. & now, I just know it, from practice. I design the html for this webpage. I don't use a template. Some of the older formated pages come from a template, like That's My Take. But I've fooled around with the aspects of it, changing colors from table to table. I also learned to create my own graphics. I have Paint Shop Pro & use it constantly to keep the website looking the way I want it to.
In April of 1999, I decided it'd be fun if I were one of the first "Angel" sites. So I made an "Angel" page & called it Lost Angelus. It seemed natural to seperate the "Buffy" & the "Angel" page then. But when the shows started up I realized it would be better if the two websites were combined. I realized that if I combined Lost Angelus & The Buffy Source, I would update more often because it would be faster to update. I got excited about combining certain sections & divided different pages into larger segments & got cracking. On February 20th, it would be the year anniversary of when The Buffy Source was started, so I figured, on that day I would open to the public an idea I conceived long ago.
Deriving it's name from the initials of The Buffy Source & Lost Angelus, this webpage is TBSLA: The Buffy/Angel Intersection.
Some time has gone by. During the 01-02 season, I got so busy with life stuff that I started to update the site rarely. Really, even currently, I mostly sometimes will post news in What's What, I continually update the Next Week section (sometimes not in the summer of repeatville), & I always update That's My Take. That's My Take is my big section & active contribution.
About me: I'm a 22-year-old female law student. I write poetry & songs in my spare time (when that exists). I have a lot of story ideas & have started a couple writing projects but the only thing I ever wrote all the way through was a play about 3 sisters dealing with family secrets during their mother's funeral. I am a fan of a lot of music - big ones for me, lately, John Mayer. I'm always into Sarah McLachlan but she hasn't come out with anything for a while. I love George Sarah from T.H.C. & his work with Tony Head. Joss Whedon's Buffy Musical is in my CD player a lot, obviously. I like so many things it's crazy. I used to intern with a rap station in Atlanta - which is really not characteristic of me but then you consider somehow our target audience was 15-year-old white girls. Who knew? I believe in trying everything & not just limiting yourself to one thing. I want to write music, poetry, books, plays or whatever as well as legal briefs for the rest of my life. I never want to limit myself to one thing. I try to experience what life has to offer - I have fascination with life as opposed to the slayer's fascination with death. My philosophy on life is to just try & be a good person & try to make your impact on people. To make it that when you go people somewhere will say that you lived, you touched them, you tried. That's me in a nutshell. Other than that, from what others tell me about myself -- someone once told me I am the least racist person they have ever known, that I am fiercely loyal to my friends, that my spirit never breaks so when I'm actually breaking down it's really bad - & that I have the prettiest eyes a lot of people have ever seen, and that I'm crazy (that's the one I hear most often) :) Read my poetry, if you wish: HERE, you'll see what people are talking about.
